STL has recently added more SWA gates, but not that many. We have 40 SWA gates now (technically, those numbered above 34 are in Concourse C of Terminal 1, but since the terminals connect end-to-end, they've renamed from the far end of C and renumbered them as E-gates.)
The gates in Terminal 2, the E-gates, are only on the out-facing side of the terminal, so you do have to walk past 40 of them to get from E1 to E40. Going at a brisk walk, the whole concourse takes between 15-20 minutes to do from end to end. Most food services are located between E-10 and E-24.
