.Those poor kids. I believe that this family had been on TLC a few times with there kids

BEULAH, Fla. — Investigators searched Friday for three men wanted for questioning about the Thursday night home-invasion deaths of the mother and father of 16 children.

The Escambia County Sheriff's Office said the men were driving a red full-size van when they were seen leaving the home of Byrd and Melanie Billings after the Escambia County couple were found shot to death in the bedroom of their home in Beulah, just west of Pensacola near the Alabama border.

Sgt. Ted Roy, a sheriff's office spokesman, said the men may have been involved in the slayings.

The couple were the parents of 16 children — 12 adopted.

Roy said the children living in the home were found safe after the attack. Deputies had to wake some of the children who ranged in age from infants to 11 years old, he said.

The couple owned several local businesses and were known for their generosity taking in children with disabilities and from troubled backgrounds.

Roy said investigators were meeting Friday morning and had no new information about the case.

"We don't know who did this," he said.

When the couple married 18 years ago and each had two children from previous marriages, according to a 2005 story about the family from the News Journal. The Billings then began adopting children with developmental disabilities and other problems. The family lived in a nine-bedroom rural home.

In the 2005 story the couple said they wanted to share their wealth with children in need, but that they did not imagine their family would grow so large.

"It just happened," Melanie Byrd told the newspaper. "I just wanted to give them a better life."

The story said the family's nine-bedroom home had a complete alarm system with sensors and cameras in every room.

Roy said authorities were reviewing video footage from the cameras.

"They were very good people. I don't know what's going to happen to those children," Nancy Markham, the mother-in-law of one of the couple's grown children, told the Pensacola News Journal.

How horrible. I wonder what will happen to all those children now? Foster?:sad2:

They had 4 biological children which makes me wonder if those four are older than the others. I wonder if they would fight to keep the siblings all together by trying to get guardianship.

Sadly, when this all unfolds, I don't think it will be a random crime:guilty:

Some of the children that they have adopted have had trouble with the law. I think this will play a part.

Just awful. They were good people who opened their home to so many in need.

Geraldo was hinting last night that Bryd and Melanie may not be the upstanding folks most people thought them to be:eek:

He better be able to back that up:sad2:

I thought that Geraldo last night said some of the most irresponsible things I have EVER heard a 'reporter' say. That man should learn how to keep his big yap shut. What a TERRIBLE and HURTFUL thing to theorize with apparently NOTHING concrete to back it up! Even if it is true, shouldn't he leave it to the law-enforcement authorities? What good does needless public speculation do? Does it help the investigation? Does it help those poor children?
Hey, maybe everyone should theorize that Geraldo is a pedophile. Because, (after all, he does keep marrying all these younger and younger women and) we all know that where there's smoke there's fire...well *that* IS basically what he implied, isn't it?!?

what a [insert appropriate Yiddish word here].

agnes!

I'm surprised this story hasn't been more prominent on the DIS.

Latest reports indicate that the Billings were murdered, "with military precision" by this group for the contents of their safe, which only contained children's medications, family documents, and some jewelry.

This whole thing is just sickening. :sad1:

This case is getting more bizarre by the day:scared:

Now many are specualting that it was a "hit" and there are MORE people involved. Rumors that there was over 100K in the safe....and perhaps a second safe.

Also, there are some strange reports that Byrd was trying to copyright the names of his children so that every time they were used, he would receive money:eek:

Such a very sad heartbreaking story, that poor family. :sad1:
Simply doesn't make sense to attack a supposedly loving couple rasing special needs children.
Sadly I'm getting the feeling there is a lot more to this story than meets the eye. :guilty:
