Susie & Laurens 1st Disney Trip Pre-trip or My name is Susie and I am a planner.
Cast:
Susie - Mom
Lauren 10-year-old daughter
We have never been to a Disney property.
Hi, my name is Susie and I am a planner. It has been 2 years since I last planned a trip.
Our WDW trip was one of those things that kind of fell in my lap. In January, with my bonus check coming in the next few days, I decided that this year Lauren and I would finally take a real vacation instead of driving to Tulsa to visit family or somewhere that I can drive to in less than 4 hours. While on Travelocity looking at prices for Sea World San Antonio staying at a hotel on the River Walk, I decided just for grins to see how much a WDW trip would cost. Saw a Disney Vacations button and clicked on it. The rest, as they say, is history. WDW trip was only $200 more than trip I was originally going to book! Now comes the hard part. My husband cant take vacation in the summer due to workload and how will he feel if Lauren and I went to WDW without him? Made the phone call
Me Guess what!
Him What?
Me I can get a trip to WDW for Lauren and me for only $200 more than the Sea World trip!
Him and
Me I want to go in June. Will that be a problem?
Him pause pause pause Have a good time!!
Me You are the greatest!!!
Him One thing though
Me (uh-oh) What?
Him You need to start planning a trip for December 2005 so I can go next time.
Me Yipee!!!!
Pushed the Confirm Trip button and the planning begins!!
Immediately did a search for Disney forums and found DIS. It has been my home ever since. However, the first day I started reading posts I realized I had a lot to do. PS? What is that? Oh! You mean I just cant walk up to a restaurant and have dinner with Mickey! Learned to do a countdown clock will it ever reach 90 days will it ever reach 30 days will it ever be in single digits Trust me, they do work and dont click backwards a minute or two every day like the clocks in high school did!
Jump ahead to April. PS are made. Guidebooks are read. Each day planned. Keep reminding myself to be FLEXIBLE. Passporter filled out in ink. What!?! You cant change my flight times! I have it in ink!! Oh, well, thats why they made Liquid Paper isnt it? Originally booked with Mears...heard horror stories canceled Mears and booked with Murray Hill town car. Got a great rate with a coupon and price matching. Only $80 round trip.
Lauren has decided that this is the year she gets over her fear of roller coasters. As it happens, she has a cheer competition at Six-Flags so it is a fine time to test her roller coaster fear. I told her if she could do those RCs then WDW would be a breeze. Lets start with Runaway Mine. Of all the times I have been to SF I have never rode it. Dont know why. Its small, shouldnt be to bad. OMG!! That is the roughest thing I have ever been on. Then it goes into complete darkness at the speed of light! Looked at Laurens face after it was over. It is frozen in scared mode. LOL. Priceless! Time for competition, which happens to be right next to a roller coaster with two loops. Me - Are you sure you want to start with that one? Its a big step Her - Yes! Lets do it! She started screaming at the beginning and didnt stop until it was over. One looooong scream. LMAO!!! (Its the relationship we have. We love to laugh at each other) She loved it!! Woohoo!! Look out RNR! Here we come! Spent rest of the day in roller coaster bliss.
Now all I can do is wait for the timer to keep going forward and read DIS until I know enough to be a Disney veteran without ever having stepped on Disney property.
Must dos for our trip: Meet Mickey (me) & Minnie (Lauren). Have a meal with Cinderella but dont dare tell any of Laurens friends about it or she will die from the embarrassment. Have a Beaver Tail (whatever that is but it is supposed to be good).
See you in June!!!
