Hi,

We're huge sushi/sashimi fans. Any great sushi restaurants in the area?

thanks,

I am not a sushi fan....however, we travelled with someone who was. We ate at the Japanese restaurant in the Japan section of Epcot and it was good. She ordered an assortment of sushi and said it was very good.

Now, I will say this was not an economical meal, but it was good and we enjoyed it.

We eat sushi in Japan at Epcot every time we go, we just love the atmosphere and eating there. I've heard there's a sushi place at the Swan or Dolphin, can't remember which, but it always gets pretty good reviews.

This was a great sushi place we found. They do have eat in but its more for takeaway purposes.

There is also one that i've heard good things about. I'll be trying this next week.

I tried the sushi at Epcot and was well unimpressed with it, a total rip off.

I make sushi at home so know good sushi when i taste it  :goodvibes

My DH LOVES sushi. He likes the sushi at the California Grill. He likes to order the sushi sampler as his meal. He also goes to a small restaurant offsite and gets take out sushi. Its in the shopping plaza across from the Hilton Grand Vacation Club on International Drive - around the corner from Publix on Vineland Avenue (just north of 535) - down the road a bit from the Premium Outlet Center. I wish I could remember the name of the restaurant.

You'll enjoy it. It is (as the address kind of implies) near the Florida Mall, so you have to be going off-site to make it worth your while. But Orlando locals love it.

Thanks everyone! Lots of great suggestions! Maybe I'll have to sample a bit from each place!!! :sunny:

When we went in March, it was pretty good. I liked the atmosphere. I believe it's at the Swan and it's called Kimonos

:goodvibes ...and let us know when you return. Kind of a research...

I've only ever had the sushi at Wolfgang Puck's and it was yummy!! I might try Japan at Epcot on this next trip.

I'm half Japanese (on my mother's side) and also have lived in NYC (home of many of the best sushi restaurants in North America)...and from my perspective, the sushi options in Disney are bad to mediocre. The Mitsukoshi (or whatever the current name is) restaurant in the Japan Showcase in Epcot is maybe the best of a bad lot, but that's not really saying much...I found Kimono's in the Swan (or was it the Dolphin..) to be... well, pretty bad.. (lukewarm raw fish...yuck) the sushi at the California Grill is well... edible... (but for some reason we disliked the California Grill overall, except for the fabulous views)... Wolfgang Puck's... again just mediocre (and the plate had a faint smell of dishwasher detergent) and so on. Have yet to try off-site sushi places yet however. (Just in case it sounds like I'm overly picky...there are many other restaurants in Disney that I love... but none of them serve sushi )

My all time favorite is Mitsukoshi at the Japan pavillion in EPCOT, but sometimes that's a little hard to get to if you don't have an annual pass or family working as cast members...

My second best spot is in downtown Orlando, on Orange Ave just before Church St. A restuarant called Ichiban's... serves the most spectaular boats!

Third favorite is at the Winter Park Village, forgive me though... at the moment, I'm forgetting the name :confused3

[edit]As for Wolfgang Puck's, I would steer away from there... actually, after the one and only experience, I wouldn't eat sushi/sashimi if that was the last restuarant on Earth.

What kind of "experience" do you mean? Something like this suggests it made you sick.

I have eaten WPC many times and I have never gotten sick from it!

Let's just say sushi from Wolfgang's is much like sushi from a Super Target... - Mr. Abuboo

I'll have to try Mitsukoshi if it is THAT much better.

To me, it is THAT much better... not just for the sushi, but for the atmosphere and ambiance as well. It's also nice that I can order in Japanese and be understood. Now, Mitsukoshi may or may not be THAT much better to you, but THAT is why we have opinions... - Mr. Abuboo

Interesting thread. I'm not a sushi fan, but DH is. It sounds like we don't need to seek it out in WDW.

I love the DIS but sometimes it's hard to know which reviewers have similar tastes/experiences, you know? It's like Olive Garden. Many DISers love it and seek it out. I enjoy it what it is, but do not consider it fine Italian food.
