DH loves sushi and I would love to find a good place to take him next trip. Anyone know of a great place?

Thanks,

I know they had a place to sit down for sushi at Teppanaki, but I don't know if they'll still have that once it reopens. I'm not sure where else to go for sushi. I'm a big fan of it too.

I used to waitress in one of nyc's top sushi restaurants, and I saw some close-up pics of sushi from cali. grill that looked REALLY awesome! IT was on the reviews board under a recent CG thread w/ pics. I have yet to try it though. I believe wolfgang pucks has it too, but double check the menu section. I have heard the sushi in japan pavillion is good too.

My guess is that the Japanese pavillion will have have sushi after the expansion.

Yes you heard that correctly the renovation includes an expansion. I was at the lounge on the twelve when a couple of gentleman were conversing the with the Food and Beverage Manager for the pavillion. One of the gentleman seemed to have an interest in a winery thus their meeting with the F&B manager. The interesting part was that the F&B Manager mentioned how they were expanding the restaurant portion and in-fact a crane had arrived in the last day to assist.

When I left the lounge, I walked out on the front "decK" and went towards Morocco, sure enough there was a clearing about the size of the existing pavillion.

The other intering point was that they didn't have tempura available in either the lounge or Tempura Kiku when I was seated in the lounge both the hostess and server gave an explanation but I didn't understand. However, they were still offering sushi.

DH and I love Kimonos at the Swan!

Wolfgang Puck at DTD is supposed to have the best Sushi in WDW....that's what I've read, anyway --- but I don't eat it.

Second that!!! You can also get sushi at Yakitori House (counter service) in Japan but I believe it is only a choice of one or two different rolls. Once they fix up the restaurant in Japan they will open up their full sushi restaurant again

My DH and I ate sushi at Wolfgang Puck Cafe in February. We absolutely loved the sushi. It was great. If I could figure out how to post pictures I would post these. They even have a sushi bar if you don't want to wait for a table.

Kimonos is WAY better than Pucks. We have had sushi every place it's offered in WDW, being sushi fans. This is how they rank, in our opinion.

Kimonos - #1 - Swolphin caters to a large Japanese market - this is the most authentic sushi on property

Cali. Grill - Very good, esp. the rolls which are HUGE

Pucks - Very good also, but a little behind CG

Tempura Kiku / Matsa No Ma Lounge - good, but they have to make it in such large quantities that they premake alot of the items & it gets a bit dried out. But, if we need sushi for lunch, this is about the only option so we do it occasionally. It is our last resort for WDW sushi.

Leota- Thanks for the run down! I haven't had sushi at all those locations, but so far Ca. Grill is my fav.! The Spicy Sensation is incredible!

Kimonos at the Swan has been rated the best place for Sushi in Orlando.

CA Grill some of it is pretty good, we had a yellow fin assortment that was fantastic.

That doesn't surprise me, I think the sushi I've had there is some of the best I've ever tasted.

Yummmm.....yellowfin. :cloud9: Planning to pop into the CG lounge in May, I think we need to try that assortment.

Haven't tried Kimonos. It's somewhat expensive ($5.50 for two bites of maki roll)

I have tried CA Grill, and while it's even more expensive, somehow that doesn't bother me. The spicy tuna there is to die for; it's not your usual spicy sauce.

Thank you so much. I'll give him 1 choice based on the reviews here. :)

I wanted somewhere for sushi as well, I'd scope the menus ahead of time over at allears. It depends what you're after, a lot of the options are very limited and HEAVILY westernized (cali rolls etc galore, not a lot else). The swan definately looks to be the best option.

We like Kimonos at the Swan. It's very fresh and they have good cocktails. Complete with Karaoke.

Oh - and California Grille - EXCELLENT sushi.
