Susan's Quest for Good Health After a Celiac Diagnosis (comments greatly appreciated)

Hi, everybody. I am feeling a little better and moving a bit better today. My pain today is about a 6, so a little better than yesterday. I see the chiropractor this evening, so here's hoping it goes as well as Monday's adjustments did.

Tracy - Yes, the ice helps a lot. I still have a lot of swelling, but it helps the pain and keeps the inflammation from getting any worse.

Beth - Thank you for reading my journal and for the compliment. I don't know about being amazing, but I don't give up easily - that stubborn streak runs in the family! It is frustrating to have to let others do what I normally do, but I am trying not to sweat it - as long as the necessary stuff gets done, it's all good.

Stacy - Yes, I am looking forward to going to WDW. I think I have finally come to terms with the fact that this trip will be low-key for me, and now I am just looking forward to the break and being with family.

BigMama - Thanks for checking on me. I am a little better today, so I am cautiously optimistic that the pain will slowly get better.

We have two vehicles for my husband and myself - a minivan and a Pontiac Grand Am. Since gas prices got so high, we drive the Grand Am pretty much all the time because it gets better gas mileage and we very seldom use the van. We had a minor issue with the Grand Am yesterday evening, so my DH asked me to drive the van to the park and ride lot this morning to catch the bus until he can get what he needs to fix it. One of the activities that has been so agonizing for me since this back problem began is getting out of the car. Since the Grand Am is low to the ground, I have to haul myself up and straighten myself out at the same time - not fun when your back is tied up in knots. So this morning, I get in the van - and it is not NEARLY as painful as getting in the Grand Am. The van is higher off the ground and has more room to get in and out. WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT LAST WEEK????? I would have saved myself so much pain. So, anyway, now that I have discovered this, I asked my DH if we can drive the van to WDW. It will take more gas, but it will be so much easier on me. He said it wouldn't take that much more gas and if it was less painful for me, it was the thing to do. So maybe that will help with the ride down and back - it can't hurt.

Will check in again tomorrow and let all of you know how my back doc's visit went today. Thanks so much for your concern and compassion - have a good one!:grouphug:

Hi Susan! I just read your journal and I wanted to let you know what an inspiration you are. Getting up before 5 and then exercising before work must not be an easy task, but its obvious how serious you are about your plan... GOOD FOR YOU! The first step is definitly sticking to your plan (something I'm having a lot of trouble with). Feel better soon!

Susan, hope your dr. appt went ok!! And that is a very smart idea to take the van.. your DH is right -- so what if it is a lil' more gas.. your health is more important!!

 Susan,

I'm glad that you are feeling somewhat better.:goodvibes How did the doctor's appointment go?

Hope you have a great weekend!:goodvibes

You guys are the best! Thanks for checking in on me so diligently.:goodvibes Sorry I didn't get back here yesterday to update you - life gets in the way of DIS'ing sometimes, doesn't it?:surfweb:

My back doc's appointment on Wednesday was rather difficult. He said that he feels he has now stabilized my pelvis, so my lumbar discs are still moving around (yes, that is as painful as it sounds) but my pelvis is staying put. So that's progress, for which I'm grateful, but I'm still in quite a bit of pain. In fact, yesterday and today my pain levels are at about a 7. This may be due, in part, to the fact that our weather changed here drastically pretty much overnight - we went from hot and muggy to cool and breezy in about 12 hours. So I am sure that didn't help things. I am still moving around a bit better, but I keep getting that stabbing pain from time to time and the whole area is very sore and tender. I have one more visit with him (this afternoon) before my WDW trip and I'm hoping that whatever he does today will help me feel better (or at least not feel any worse) over the next week. I have decided to try to make the best of the week, and as long as I'm not in as much pain as I was last week, I think I can manage to have a good time in spite of the back.

We had originally planned to leave tonight, but we were only going down a day early so the three of us could hang out and ride some rides that we particularly like before the rest of our family arrives. Since I can't really do most of those rides now, we decided to wait and leave tomorrow night. This gives me time to rest well tonight, then get up tomorrow and do the errands, packing and all that with some time for rest afterwards before we start the drive. I think that will help with the trip down somewhat - I always hurt more when I am tired, so being more rested will be a big plus.

Thanks again to all of you for caring so much about me. I will make sure to post as soon as we get back to tell you how the trip went. Hope you have a great week - and hope everybody does well with their individual eating and training plans!!:grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:
