Survivor: Nicaragua Wed, Sept 15**No Spoilers**

Here is Jeff Probst's blog from EW. He explains why they are on the Jury, but for some reason I don't recall that happening.

Okay, I’m not a lawyer, but it seems to me that there is a bit of an implied contract when you agree to be on Survivor.

On our side, we promise you the adventure of your lifetime. Something you have never experienced before and will probably never experience again. It’s a multi-million dollar, life-changing thrill ride that will test you on every level. We promise, and we always deliver. Always.

In exchange we expect only two things from you: Show up… and play. That’s it. When you fail to do one or both of those requirements you are not living up to your end of the bargain. One might say you are in breach of our implied contract.

That’s my new philosophy regarding quitters on Survivor. You’re breaking your contract. There are certainly exceptions to the rule, such as medical evacuations and family emergencies, but I’m talking about the contestants who just decide they don’t want to play anymore. In this case, Naonka and Purple Kelly.

You’d think that by the time you have gone through the long arduous process of casting, meeting the executives at CBS, suffering through your immunization shots, getting your passport, arranging to leave your life for 39 days, getting on a plane, meeting with the press, and then lasting 28 days to give yourself a 1-in-9 shot at winning a million dollars, that this would be a no-brainer. Of course you’re going to finish; quitting would be foolish, right?

I’m not going to rehash the events of the quit, that’s just a waste of time and space.

I will however mention that when Naonka had the chance to walk away from the reward in exchange for tarp and rice, I truly believed she would do it. I was initially shocked when she didn’t move. Shocked. Naonka had just told everybody she wanted to quit. She knew she would be eating real food and sleeping in a real bed within hours, and all she had to do was stand up and say “It’s the least I can do before I quit.” She would have redeemed herself just a little bit.

But upon reflection I can clearly see that my expectation was flawed. Naonka has been consistently selfish for 28 days, and for her to stand up and suddenly do the “right thing” would not be consistent. Naonka went out the same way she came in, “Looking out for numero uno.”

In addition to not being a lawyer, I’m also not a psychologist, but it never seems to stop me from offering up an opinion. So here’s my take on whether they will regret this later in life:

I don’t think Naonka is going to regret her actions for one moment. I think Naonka has a lot of maturing to do and it doesn’t appear to be coming anytime soon. Quitting Survivor doesn’t make Naonka a bad person in my eyes, it was just disappointing. I’ll be curious to find out the reaction from Naonka’s family at the reunion show.

In the case of Purple Kelly, I think she will learn a lot from this experience and will at some point regret not sticking it out for 11 more days.

When you quit, when you give up and walk away from a task, even though you know you have some gas left in the tank, you are in a sense giving up on yourself. Purple Kelly had a lot of gas left in her tank. She’s a very strong and resilient young woman. Naonka gave her permission to quit and she took it and ran. I have a feeling the next time Purple Kelly is in the same situation she will think a long time before quitting.

JURY
I know a lot of you are angry right now because Naonka and Purple Kelly are allowed to be on the jury, so let me explain.

The reason they will both be members of the jury is because a precedent had already been set back when Janu quit in Survivor: Palau. Janu quit the game but was allowed to be on the jury, so we used the same reasoning with Naonka and Purple Kelly. It wasn’t an emotional decision, just an issue of fairness.

And yes…Marty, Alina and Brenda were very upset when they found out these quitters would still get to have a vote to decide who wins the million dollars.

IMPACT
Naonka and Purple Kelly quitting just blew this game wide open. It’s like we’re starting over. Their quit benefits some and penalizes others. The person who lost the most was Sash. He not only lost Purple Kelly, who would have voted any way he wanted her to, he also lost Naonka and her idol. He could have taken those two to the end with him and probably been a shoo-in for the million dollars. Instead he now must scramble to make something happen, and other than Dan, everybody else is a threat to win the game.

From a show point of view it’s an awesome turn of events. It changed everything and makes for an exciting and unpredictable finish.

Everybody left in the game has a legitimate shot to win.

Everybody except Dan. Dan’s best hope was to go to the final with Naonka and Purple Kelly. Now that they’re gone, I cannot think of a scenario in which Dan could beat anybody to win. This makes Dan a great person to take to the end. The dilemma is going to be who else do you take to the final?

I am not picking on Dan, I actually enjoy Dan quite a bit, and I could be wrong and Dan could win. If he does win, stay glued to your television because there is a very good chance that at the live show, as I read the last “Dan” vote, I will become light-headed and pass out on the CBS stage. Fortunately, Dancing With The Stars tapes nearby, so Tom Bergeron could run over and handle the rest of the reunion show.

Okay, so we are down to seven: Jane, Benry, Fabio, Holly, Sash, Chase, and Dan. There is going to be a lot of scrambling happening from here until the end. Here is my assessment of what each player needs to do:

Chase needs to form an alliance and stick with it.

Fabio, Benry and Jane need to start winning immunity or they are in danger.

Holly needs to keep mothering and nurturing and keep the attention on others.

Sash has the most work to do since his rug has been pulled out from under him.

Dan doesn’t need to do anything; it’s been working for 28 days. Why change?

It looks like we might have an exciting finish….

See ya next week.

In Jeff's blog he explains that they are allowing them to be on the jury because when Janu quit in Survivor Palau she was allowed to be on the jury and they just want to be fair. Maybe they need to put something in the rules about quitting at this point because I don't think it's fair.

1. SO happy that Naonka can not win Survivor. Quitting was totally in line with her character and not giving up her spot at the reward after announcing her decision to split sealed the deal for her. She is truly a miserable, selfish waste of human flesh. The good thing about her quitting is that now she cannot win. GOOD.

2. Glad Purple Kelly cannot win either. She was a complete non-entity.

3. I am shocked and thrilled that three of the oldest and perceived weakest players are still in this thing (Dan, Holly and Jane). Whoda thunk?

4. At this point, I continue to root for Fabio and Jane.

I think it's completely unfair for Naonka and Kelly to be on the jury. They QUIT the game; they weren't voted out!! I can't wait to watch the Ponderosa videos when I get home (can't here at work) and see how Alina, Marty and Brenda treat Naonka and Kelly. I know people didn't like Marty, but at least he kept playing right up until his torch was snuffed out; he never gave up.

As for Naonka's behavior, every week I thought she couldn't sink any lower, but last night was a new low.:sad2: She knew she was going to quit, and she still went on the reward???? How selfish can someone be? She knew she'd get tons of food and be warm and dry that night, but she wouldn't give up her spot so the rest of them could have some food and a tarp. Unbelievable.

On the other hand, kudos to Holly for giving up the reward to help the others.:thumbsup2 She's come a long way from wanting to quit back on day 5 to now. Good for her! If she makes it to the final 3, I'm sure she'll get a lot of votes for what she did last night. I'm so glad Jeff brought up the fact that Holly wanted to quit but she stuck it out. And I loved Jane's explanation about the age difference and how Naonka and Kelly need to learn that life is tough.

Poor Holly, she is the only had that has not gone to a any reward :(

Watching Naonka and kelly at ponderosa is just sad, they got the chance to be in Survivor and they don't care, Naonka said that she loved Ponderosa, "is like being on vacation" she doesn't want to leave, of course not, all she does is eat and yap! And purple Kelly ahh what a whining brat, she is too worry about her hair not being purple anymore and being damage by the elements, and her voice is annoying too! Agrrrr !

Forgot to add: reading Jeff's blog, I see why they let Naonka and Kelly be on the jury, but I don't agree with it. Hopefully they'll change the rules.

On the other hand, even though I've watched every episode of Survivor since Season 1, I have no idea who Janu from Palau is; hopefully Naonka will sink into obscurity just like Janu. I want to wipe her from my mind!

Someone mentioned the idol Nay had and how Sash wanted it. Didn't she give her idol to the other guy?

And I don't know if the show has a new producer or editor but it's really lacking this year. We went from Naonka and Kelly whining about the cold to everyone talking about them quitting as though it were a done deal and never once in between did Kelly or Naonka say they were going to quit on camera.

Same thing with the camp burning. It was just glossed over and it was a major event!

I hope Naonka and Kelly are treated like lepers at Ponderosa. Poor Alina looked crushed at tribal council. I even felt bad for Marty.

I think, if they have to allow Naonka and Kelly on the jury, then their votes should only count in the case of a tie.

I'm so glad nasty Naonka is GONE!! I've been wanting her gone for weeks!! And her still going on the reward trip was no surprise, she's that selfish and nasty. What a total waste of humanity. I can't imagine being that shallow and selfish. I would be so ashamed of her if she were my daughter. :sad2:

I thought just maybe Purple Kelly would stay, after being talked to by Holly, so I was kind of surprised she actually did quit.

I don't think it's fair that they're on the jury, or okay let them sit on the jury but they shouldn't have a vote. Or send them home and bring back the last two voted out, before the jury started. Those two quit, they should not have a say in who wins. That's not fair at all.

It'll be interesting, when they have the reunion show after we see who wins, when Jeff talks to Naonka and Kelly, to see if they regret quitting.

I'm rooting for Jane, or Holly, to win.

Yes, Naonka gave her idol to Chase.

I agree with you about the camp burning just being glossed over. I was waiting to see the reaction of the others coming back from the reward, and they never even showed it. :(

Maybe this will cause the "powers that be" to re-evaluate the rules and make a decision on quitters...especially so close to the end of the game...but who knows?

I am not all that happy about Naonka and Purple Kelly on the jury either! That is just sad! I love reading Jeff's blog, I have a question that may haven been addressed before but I haven't seen the answer so I will ask again.

Does Jeff write the blog after the tribal council while out in the jungle or does he write it after an episode airs? It just makes sense that he would write it while he is out there when it is still fresh in his mind and if he is writing it after he already knows what happens then I think he would have a hard time not giving anything a way or becoming biased in his writing.

What do you guys know/think?

I think Jeff's blog is written about the episode. I think while he is out there he doesn't know everything that is happening back at camp, he also doesn't know how the episode is going to appear.
He does a great job of not giving away what happens. I wonder if Dan makes it to the finals though. He has said a few times he doesn't think he has a chance to win.

I don't think Naonka had a chance of winning. I do think she would have been invited back for an all stars or villans vs heroes type of show. I really hope that doesn't happen:sad1:

I have to say I am happy to see her gone.

I was thinking that she could be invited back too but I don't know they don't look too highly on quitters. They may not pass up her though because she did bring so much drama to the show. The other question would be rather she would do it or not considering she was so miserable out there.

I sure hope she stays far away. She is unbelievable.

Jane was wearing the immunity necklace at TC. I guess there was an immunity challenge and they didn't show it, or did I miss it somehow???

Here is Jeff Probst's blog from EW. He explains why they are on the Jury, but for some reason I don't recall that happening.

I was hoping to quote Jeff's blog, but anyway, I loved the paragraph about what would happen if Dan ended up winning :lmao:

Forget precedent. The game has changed so much since Janu played and quite. That is a poor excuse. If you quit, you quit. You should not be able to have ANY impact on the rest of the game. To think that these two idiots might have an affect on who wins the million makes me sick.

It'll be interesting, when they have the reunion show after we see who wins, when Jeff talks to Naonka and Kelly, to see if they regret quitting.

I wish he'd just ignore them and not add any more to their 15 minutes of fame.

I have no doubt in my mind that they will not be asked back. CBS would be thinking what if she quits again? Johnny Fairplay was one of the most entertaining competitors and he will never be asked back after quitting the all Heroes Vs. Villains show.

I just watched Ponderosa, and I couldn't believe how Marty and Brenda were so warm and welcoming to Naonka and Kelly.

I wanted to throw up when they showed Naonka walking away from Tribal Council with Kelly, and saying how she didn't regret anything that she did, and that her family would be so proud of her. Proud? Really? Wow! :sad2:

1) Holly should be thankful that Naonka didn't volunteer. I understand the movie would have been a nice reward for Holly but the goodwill she earned is way more valuable. If she makes the final 2/3, this will be big for her, BIG!!

2) Jeff keeps saying that Dan doesn't have a chance in his blogs. I don't understand this. Dan has a great chance to win in my eyes as long as he isn't up against Jane or Holly. If he's up against the younger people, I definitely think he can pull it out.

3) Why was Alina sobbing like a baby last night? She was acting like her mother just passed.
