Surviving the heat wave

My boys and I are headed down from Seattle on Thursday to Sunday, during heat wave part 2. As northwestern natives, that kind of weather makes us nutso. I'm thinking about avoiding hottest parts of the day by being indoors; do you think that will be noonish, or more like 3-4pm? I'm considering canceling our reservations at Big Thunder bbq on Friday at 4, for someplace with air conditioning. In general am thinking morning & evening will be our times in the parks. What do you all think?

I'd say it peaked around 3pm when we were there. We'd go back to the room around 2 typically and chill until 5ish.

What will save you is that the days are getting shorter and it will be well into the 60s at night. I am local -- the hottest time of day is generally right around 3, I find.

But it is true, especially at this time of year, that if you're in the shade it really isn't that bad. So next Saturday has humidity of only 14% even though it will be 100 (they claim). If you can plan some indoor things in the late afternoon, you will probably be fine.

I feel your pain, though! I SO wish we had a real Fall here.

If there are winds, plan on no fireworks, or possibly an abbreviated show. The last two nights, both "Remember..." and "Hallowishes" were cut short due to "winds at higher elevations". This next heat cycle could bring Santa Ana winds. They are due around this time of year.

Thanks all! Evenings are our favorite times anyway, and we are not so keen on fireworks (weird, I know)--though was hoping for fireworks during MHP to cut down on lines for rides! Will bring sweatshirts for evenings & tank tops for day, but I don't think eating ribs outside in 100 degree weather sounds fun, so will change that. Cheers!

We are from Tacoma and we really did nearly melt when we went, 9/16-19. That Tuesday was brutal as it got up to 105!
We had reservations at 2:10 at Blue Bayou, which helped a lot. I agree that it's hottest around 3 pm. The 2-5 PM range is perfect for a nap or pool time.

I was there last week. The heat was awful! That will be the last time I go in September LOL

We were there earlier this month and it was HOT! We would get there first thing in the morning, then head back for a break at the hotel around 1. We would then go back in the evening. Our family couldn't stand the heat (We are Oregonians afterall :))

My advice, plan on skipping the afternoon. If you can, order bottle water from Vons or grab some at the store if you are able. We went through 3 cases! Also, my boys loved the fan sprayers. They were a life saver! I picked up 2 at walmart for $6 each. Have a great trip!

Was in the parks on Thursday (9-24) and it was hoooot! I'm from az so we know heat! It was kinda brutal in the sun but the shade was tolerable. Some of the rides that queue in the sun was bad. Like portions of splash and big thunder. It was the worst from like 3-6ish.

From about 2-6pm you want to do all the indoor attractions: Small World, Pirates, Mansion, Lincoln, Tiki Room, Soarin' and the water rides if you choose. That will get you through the peak heat and the rest should be rather pleasant.
