Getting out of miami thats what.........I am tired of all this is not worth it. I barely go to the beach rarely go to South beach so why stay.......I love the cold weather and wouldnt mined shoveling snow.......So thats it next year Good Bye FL....Not sure what state Ill end up at yet though....

Chicago chicago chicago!! Oh what I would give to move back to Chicago! Seriously, it's a great city!!

I understand how you feel. I hope things work out for you and that you end up in a nice place where the weather won't keep us up at night with worry.

I was thinking Boston Mass. What you think? Atleast there I wont have to be holding up a mattress to a door for over 3 hours while the wind outs blowing part of roof onto your car. I know my problem is insignificant compared to that of others. I do feel bad for them but I just want out of this state.

I just returned from a visit to Chicago yesterday. Nice town, if you like BIIIIIIIG cities :earseek: :earseek: :earseek:

But LOTS of wind off of the lake in winter. REAL pretty in summer, though.

It was not much cooler than I am now.

Yet.

I felt that way after last hurricane season. But time heals all wounds, and I am pretty happy being here once again (yes there are some things I don't like about the state, but hey it's home, and with the cold snap today, it makes me think I can't do cold anymore).

What's next? Well, there's this spot of weather in the SW Caribbean just north of Panama. Maybe it will flake out. Maybe it will become Beta. From what I understand, Wilma zapped a lot of heat along the way, so maybe that makes stengthening or sustaining conditions in the Gulf less favorable. Maybe.

That's what I miss! I loved going downtown during Christmas time when it's brisk, the stores are open late, and the lights are up!

Well, we are in the midst of a winter storm right now. It's only about 30 degrees and snowing hard. My power just came back on after 6 hours, so I am sitting here waiting for my bed to warm up so I can go back to sleep. Thank goodness for our woodstove!

I feel bad for all you people who have been without power/water for weeks!

We've lived all over, (moved for DH's jobs.) Every place has good and bad, and we moved from the Ft Lauderdale area a year ago, and have relocated to Ann Arbor. The area is very nice, and my teenage sons love it. I think a lot of people move South once they realize that the ice and snow is dangerous for older people, who don't need to risk breaking a hip, just going out to fetch the paper. The high school here is a dream compared to the overcrowded schools of Southeast Florida. Regardless of anything else, you'll do very well selling your Miami home, and you'll certainly pay less in car insurance in another state, although I don't know Massachusetts at all. The downside of the Midwest can be that the economy can be slower. We moved here for a job, and three months in, my DH's boss was fired. Some months later, my DH was also let go. If we had to sell this house right now, we'd be among many other homes on the market, with very few buyers, because of the bad Michigan economy now. I'd suggest really researching the areas that you're considering for all of these factors. I do remember the inconvenience of hurricane preparation, and we were fortunate never to take a hit like you guys did! It always takes forever to get good help to come out and do work at your home anyway in Florida. I feel for these people who'll need roof tiles replaced, etc. Good luck and glad that you guys made it through OK! :flower:

Why not move up to the north central part of the state? Far enough away from the coasts that you don't have to worry too much about hurricanes yet not far enough north to deal with harsh winters.. :flower:

We've had an influx of people moving here from FL this year. Our school has several new families--all from FL! I guess you're not the only one tired of it.

Good luck!

Maybe you just don't like Miami. Do you like Florida?

I love Florida, so that is why I stay. I go more often to the beach now (it's been 13 years living in this state).....but still not very often at all. It is home.

I would say, see how clean up progresses, find out what there is in other parts of the state...weigh all your pros and cons before making such a decision.

Good luck with your decision, though!

Well, if you are in Miami and have power, at least you are one of the lucky ones. :)

We lived in South Florida for a few years and I understand you completely. I didn't like it and we never had to deal with a hurricane! I missed the change of seasons the most. So we moved to north Georgia--aka, God's country. My DH is from Pensacola, FL, and every time he mentions moving back to Florida I just remember how hot is was and how miserable and I put a stop to that nonsense!
