Aloha!
Long time lurker, first time poster! I've been reading all the helpful advice everybody has been giving and thought I'd try this out.
My family (me, DH, DD11, and DS5) will be going to DLR November 7-11 to celebrate DS5's 6th birthday. We're staying at the DLH with a great rate from that postcard discount thingy. Plus, I've been doing my part shopping and using my Disney Visa and we've got plenty of points where I think most of the trip (hotel and tix) will be paid for. Yeah, if I could put our mortgage on the Visa, I would.
So far, we haven't mentioned this trip to the kids. The current plan is to pick them up from school Friday, all packed, with a "Surprise! Guess where we're going?" We live in the bay area, so we'd be driving down Friday afternoon (yay, the 152 interchange is now open). The last time we were at DLR was 3 years ago, and we were at WDW last summer. I think they'll be thrilled. Any good ideas on how to better the surprise, or any thoughts on why this may not be a good thing? Sometimes we've used trips like this as incentive for good behavior, so I go back and forth about the surprise thing.
We've mentioned DS's birthday on the hotel reservations, know about those birthday buttons, and I plan to book a PS for Goofy's kitchen one night for dinner.
That weekend (it's Veteran's Day weekend and the kids have Mon & Tues off) is also something called "Bat's Day." Checking, it looks like the day where a bunch of people dress up "goth style" and hit the parks. Anybody know what that type of crowd is like? Would it be okay/appropriate for kids to be around? Not trying to be offensive... I just don't know anything about it.
I'd also like to do something special for DD11... going on 16. I'm thinking of trying breakfast with Lilo & Stitch at the PP one morning. She is a hula dancer (when we were at WDW, it was actully for a hula competition there) and I see they have some type of hula demos with Minnie, etc. Anybody think this might be fun for her at 11, too cheesy
, or might she enjoy showing off her moves?
Mahalo!
