surgery tomorrow **updated post #22

I had my hysterectomy in April of this year and it was the best thing I ever did. You will come through it great:hug::hug::hug:

The worst part of it was about the first two hours I had some pain that was like bad labor pain, but then it started to get better and better( and the morphine really helped) I felt so good the next day when they discharged me that I didn't even get any prescription for pain pills to bring home.

I'm home! Wasn't nearly as awful as my imagination had made it out to be ;). I'm sore and tired, but haven't taken anything other than Advil since I left the hospital yesterday at noon.

Thank you again, for your kind words and prayers. I very much appreciate it!:thumbsup2

Fantastic news! Glad it all went well and you're on your way to a full recovery. :grouphug:

Great news! Aren't you glad it's over with? I hope the rest of your recovery is smooth.

Welcome home, ElizK. I remember when I came home after my hysterectomy in July, I was so happy. I got as far as the nearest couch to the door and immediately lay down there for the rest of the day! What type of hysterectomy did you have? I had a total abdominal, complete with bikini cut, and although I was pretty sore initially, I did get better-slowly. It took me about 4 weeks to walk normally and not shuffle, though. Give yourself time.

Glad to hear that things went well. I won't go into details, but you'll enjoy the "rewards" of your surgery later! :thumbsup2

Happy everythign went well. I'm scheduled for mine October 20th. Really scared, found a support site and I think reading that made it worse. Most of the post-op responses were horrible and scary. I had to quit reading it. Glad yours went well.

Happy to hear it went well for you. :cheer2:

Take it easy and let everyone pamper you for awhile...:goodvibes

Funny, I did EXACTLY what you did, only I went to my bed! Front door to bed, 30 seconds flat.

My surgery was done with laproscopy (however the heck you spell it). I have 4 incisions, the largest is a bit over an inch long and has 4 staples. I think my recovery will be much easier than yours.

Thinking of those "rewards" is what made me carry through with the surgery! :thumbsup2 I keep looking at those boxes, and think "HA! I won't be needing THOSE anymore!"

Are you talking about www.hystersisters.com? I found some good info there, what to pack, etc. I avoided the horror stories. My imagination was already in overdrive. My surgery was Thu, so just 3 days ago. I'm sore, but it's certainly not unbearable. I took a total of 3 Vicodins in the hospital, and just been on Advil since. I'll be taking it slow for awhile, but I'm already getting antsy with being still. I know I have to be, but I can see it getting old faster than I figured it would. If I can be of any help please let me know. Feel free to PM. I was really scared, too. It'll be over before you know it, and then you can laugh at those boxes, too. ;)

OH, I am so glad you are doing well. I posted a while back!!

I have surgery 10/8 and am trying not to freak out....so SO stressful..

I am having the bikini line cut someone else mentioned......a full hysterectomy and also ovaries and fallopian tubes, I will be in the hospital for 3-4 days per surgeon....On one hand I just want it over with and on the other it just brings back all the Breast Cancer Trials and tribulations....Surgeries (ultimately a DBL mastectomy) at same place, Sloan Kettering.....Just thinking about it now, makes me cry...I think I am having an "off day" to be fair, just off moments ....today .....but again....
I am so glad you are doing well and wishing you a very very speedy recovery!!

Goodness what we women go thru...........

Here's something which should be mentioned to people who are having the abdominal surgery -

If you have an office style chair on wheels at your computer, DO NOT try to sit in it when you get home from the hospital. You use your stomach muscles to move forward and backward in that type of chair. Your stomach muscles will not be normal right after the surgery. Switch to a chair without wheels, like one from your kitchen or dining room.

The good news is - that's not a horror story. It's just a tiny bit of planning.
