Surf and Turf Disney Style…..30 days of food on land and at sea! 06/16 WPE

3 hours for dinner at Mama Melrose? No wonder there is always such a long wait to be seated. We didn't have good service the two times we did the Fantasmic package and won't be back again.

After all of your posts about WPE and their breakfast, I have been determined to have at least one meal there. We finally made it there last week for breakfast and it was every bit as wonderful as it looks in your pictures. We will have to try lunch/dinner next time. Thanks:thumbsup2

I have had some servers like that before...you just feel like leaving. Why can't they bring you the dang bill!
At least the food was good!

The waiter at Mama Melrose sounded terrible. If he was the best server, I wonder what the worst is like?

That view on your balcony is amazing!!!

One of the reasons we stay there is to be able to sit out on that balcony, sip tea and coffee and just enjoy the view (and a KK ;))! It is so nice and quiet and relaxing .... we do NOT miss the park while at our "home". ;)

That view is glorious!! :worship: :worship: It just looks soooo relaxing....:cloud9:

We really loved sitting out there and just watching the people play golf! :thumbsup2 An adult beverage (or two) out of the fridge (nice Silverade wine!) made it even better! VERY relaxing

Oh wow Karin, the view from your balcony is wonderful

What a way to start the day :cloud9:

Isn't it a gorgeous view? I just loved walking out onto the balcony and just enjoying the view! :thumbsup2
Best way to start the day.

I love not being rushed, but then 3 hours for a three course meal, where starter and entree reach the table nearly at the same time, just ticked me off.

I am glad you loved WPE :woohoo:, and ...... if you liked breakfast you are definitely going to like lunch or dinner! It IS good, and an especially good value if you are on the DDP! :thumbsup2

It wasn't our first time experiencing this kind of service either ..... ;) We were just done by then ...... and if the desserts had been good, maybe we would have been in a better mood!

We were wondering that same thing .......... imagine the worst server ........ you arrive on Monday, are served on Wednesday and receive your bill on Sunday ............ :rotfl2:

That looks like one of the best views you've ever had at OKW! Thati is one heck of a great view and it would be hard to leave to go to a park. ::yes:: No spiders this year? That makes it perfect.:thumbsup2

A DIS friend said when they were at OKW the biggest spider they have ever seen was under the table INside the Villa! When maintenance came, even he was scared! It was HUGE! So glad it was a spider free stay this year.:yay:

Day 5, August 17

Contempo Cafe

After touring one of our favourite resorts, Port Orleans Riverside, we drove to the Contemporary Resort for lunch. The cupcakes were calling my name. ;)

We arrived shortly before noon and the restaurant was already pretty full. We ordered at the kiosks, picked up the cupcakes, paid and were handed a buzzer. Tom went to get some Diet Cokes from the soda machines and then we waited for our mains to be ready.

We shared a Honey Lime Chicken sandwich, served with pepper jack cheese on multigrain roll with salsa-Ranch dressing. We were impressed, as the chicken was still juicy and nice and the roll wasn't bad either. The fries were hot and crispy and we were really happy with our first choice.

IMG_0819.jpg

Our second choice was the Spice Crusted Mahi, topped with citrus-apple slaw on a Kaiser roll. Again, the Mahi was nicely cooked and the slaw, even though unusual complimented it nicely. I am always a bit surprised at what they sell as a Kaiser roll, as here in Austria this is a handmade, very crispy roll, which this one was not. :lmao:
But all in all a :thumbsup2

IMG_0821.jpg

Tom had ordered the Blackforest cupcake. A chocolate cupcake filled with cherry pie filling and topped up with a huge tower of frosting and a chocolate covered cherry on top.
If you know traditional Black Forest cake - this is nothing like it! :rotfl2: But even though it was different it was nice. The cupcake was really fresh and moist and very sweet. There was plenty of pie filling and it was very sweet and the frosting was very sweet too.
Okay, nice but definitely too sweet. :lmao:

IMG_0820.jpg

I wanted to try the Florida Strawberry cupcake. Basically a yellow cupcake, filled with kind of strawberry preserve and topped with strawberry frosting and a piece of strawberry on top.
Again, a nice moist cupcake, but very very sweet. I liked the taste of the strawberry and the cake and the frosting were nice together, but because of the sweetness it filled both of us up very fast and we were not able to finish either cupcakes. :sad2:

It was a wonderful view, even though we have never had a "bad" view at Old Key West. :goodvibes
We really enjoyed coming back to the villa and enjoy the peaceful setting.

We didn't come across any spiders this year :woohoo: :thumbsup2! But the previous year we had some BIG spiders. Now, I am terrified of spiders and snakes and I nearly died seeing those spiders. :rotfl2: Ever since that visit I know where they keep the spider extermination spray at Publix! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

That chicken sandwich has inspired me to find a similar recipe. It looks that good! :cool1: I love your reviews!

Great reviews. Looking forward to the rest.

I am glad you enjoy the reviews. Hopefully I will be able to post more this weekend - I am only going back to work on Thursday! ;) :thumbsup2

We really enjoyed both sandwiches, but we were so amazed that the chicken sandwich was still moist and very tasty! Glad you found a similar recipe! :thumbsup2 It's really worth trying! :goodvibes

Yay on having breakfast from your balcony - what a way to start the day. A beautiful view and Krispy Kremes - doesn't get any better!

Oh my I would go to Contempo Cafe for them cupcakes alone - soo yummy! :cloud9:

We loved having a meal out on the balcony ...... breakfasts were so peaceful out there. Wish I had a balcony like that here. :sad2:

We have been to the Contempo Cafe a few times now and have always loved the food. Those sandwiches are really yummy! :thumbsup2

Day 5, August 17

Yachtsman Steakhouse

Again we hadn't felt like the restaurant we had originally booked and had cancelled and booked a new signature restaurant for us, the Yachtsman Steakhouse.
We arrived a little early for our reservation and were told that the wait would be around 15 minutes. Buzzer in hand we walked around a little, then found a bench and sat down.
Around 20 minutes after we had checked in, our table was ready and we were led to our table. Once our host had found out that this was our first visit, he pointed out the meat station and told us about the different meat cuts and their signature entrees.
We were seated at a nice two top over looking the main dining area. Our server was over very quickly, explaining the menu again and after taking our drinks order, she left us some time to decide.

A short while later she returned with our Diet Cokes

IMG_0828.jpg

and a basket of their freshly baked bread. There were different kinds of bread, but we liked the onion bread best. :thumbsup2

IMG_0832.jpg

There was butter with seasalt served With the bread and

IMG_0831.jpg

some sweet and tender roasted garlic, which was easy to spread on the bread, which tasted even better with it!

We ordered our entrees, and while we waited we watched fellow guests and had a good look at the dining room.

IMG_0843-1.jpg

It was fun to see one of the chefs delivering plates of food to some of the tables and so the time went by quickly.

IMG_0833.jpg

I ordered the 8-oz Center Cut Filet Mignon, served with Mashed Potatoes and Cabernet Wine Sauce. I know this is a steakhouse and they should know how to cook meat, but we both were in awe at how this was cooked. It was a perfect medium, the meat melted in your mouth, it was so tender and flavourful. The mashed potatoes were creamy and silky and don't get me started on the Cabernet Sauce. I could have liked the plate, it was so good! :cloud9:

Now, Tom had gone with the recommandation of everyone we had told we were eating at the YS. :lmao:

IMG_0836-1.jpg

He ordered the 24-oz Center Cut Porterhouse, served with Smoked Paprika Fries and Roasted Garlic Butter. Boy, this thing was HUGE!!! :scared1:
Again, it was cooked to a perfect medium and was so flavourful. Looking at the size of the steak I was sure there was NO way, he was going to finish it .........

IMG_0840-1.jpg

but he did pretty well, didn't he? :rotfl2: He left most of the fries. I tasted them too and they were really good, but with all that meat, there wasn't too much room left for fries.

We were both full, but since we were on the DDP and it was a two credit meal, we at least wanted to attempt dessert.

IMG_0847.jpg

Tom ordered

IMG_0848.jpg

the Lemon Pudding Cake, served with Fruit Leather

IMG_0850.jpg

Blueberry Shake,

IMG_0849.jpg

and Mt. Tam Cheese. I only tasted very little of it, as I had to "fight" my own battle with my dessert, but he liked it a lot and deemed it not too sweet and perfect for someone who wanted "something else" than your regular dessert.

I on the other hand went a very familiar route ........ :lmao:

IMG_0844.jpg

IMG_0845.jpg

I had the Habanero infused flourless Chocolate Cake

IMG_0846.jpg

served with Mango Compote and Lime Sorbet.
Now the cake was dense and full of slightly bitter dark chocolate taste, and then it hit you, the chili in the cake gave you quite a kick at the back of your mouth. The lime sorbet was the perfect thing to go with it, as it counteracted the heat and the mango compote added a wonderful fruityness to it all. I really enjoyed this dessert and would order it again in a heartbeat.

The bill was settled quickly and we rolled out of the Yacht Club and back to our car.

You know I have to tell you every time I sit down to read your reviews I have a craving for hot tea :lmao:

Your meal at Contempo Cafe looks wonderful! We almost drove over there for dinner tonight but we were exhausted and had a picnic in the room instead.

Way to go Tom on eating that humongous hunk of beef! I love the Yachtsman, so glad you did too!

Todd prefers Shula's over all the steaks he has had in WDW, when I asked him why he said "No sauces, no stacked plates and foo foo presentation, just good tasting beef"

And here I was thinking he liked being fancy :lmao:

While I won't be going to the Yachtsmen in December, I will be going to Contempo cafe... mainly for those cupcakes!!! They look amazing!

So glad that you and Tom enjoyed Yachtsman Steakhouse :good vibes

We loved our dinner there and DH had the same entree as you and loved it :cloud9:

Contempo Cafe looks great too :thumbsup2
