Hi We are driving down and staying on Disney property. I need to pick up some things when we get down there, water, milk, bananas, yogurt etc. Where can I find the best prices? Which is also not totally out of my way?

I found that Super Walmart had better prices than Publix. There wasn't a Winn Dixie near where we stayed so I can't comment there.

I'd consider Garden Grocer.com for delivery. It is not the cheapest, but when you are paying so much for the WDW vacation think about how you want to use your time....

I happened to have hit all three during our trip a couple months ago. I've also used grocery delivery.

Super Wal-Mart is a bit of a trek (I went to the one at the end of 192). However, their prices are real good, and it's great if you need non-food items.

Publix has a great bakery, and prices are decent. I went to the one on 192.

Wynn-Dixie was a little pricier, but they have specials, and signed me up for their shopper card at the checkout. There is one just outside WDW, the entrance by SSR/OKW (sorry, don't have my map in front of me).

Delivery is a good choice if you value your time versus a few $$. Also, if you know exactly what you want. I prefer wegoshop to Garden Grocer, only because they'll shop wherever you like. So, you could (theoretically) have them go to Super Wal-Mart and pick up non-food items for you. They'll also do a second delivery at a discount, later in the week. This was handy when I found I had seriously under-estimated how much food my kids could swill down! I liked this because I coudl "shop" at my local Wal-Mart, and had a good idea how much things would cost, what brands and sizes they carried, etc.

I hope that helps. Sorry I can't give specific driving directions, etc., but all are reasonably close. Also, the Wal-Mart is 24-hour--just nice to know if you're a parent and might have need for, say, infant Tylenol at 3 am.

There's several stores close by, and easy to get to right off disney property.

Wal-Mart - 192 East, located in Kissimme, it's a bit further and more touristy, and not as nice as the other two
192 - West, located in the Four Corners, it's a bit of a drive but it is about the nicest one.
535 - Right at Osceola Pkwy/535, it's the closest, still touristy, but nice, but be careful at night cause this is when all the CP's shop...

Target - 535/192 interestion, easy to get to, very nice, very clean
192 West - A bit further from Disney property, but it's brand new, opened in march/april.

Publix - All of them are reasonably priced, sometimes higher than wal-mart but I sometimes prefer quality over quantity. You can find their weekly ad online as well. They usually do a lot of buy 1 get 1 frees every week, and you don't need to get a card to get the deals.
192/international dr S - Right next to Gaylord Palms, this is one of the nicer ones, slightly smaller than the others though
192/535 - Right around the corner from Super Target, this is the largest, and They stay open the latest, till 11pm I believe on weeknights.
192 West - Across from the brand new Super Target, it's decent, it's nice.

Winn Dixie - You do have to sign up with one of thier cards if you don't have one already to get thier sale items. It's an alright store, better than most in the chain, but not even as nice as 535 wal-mart. There is a simple back road if you're on the northeast end of property (Fort Wilderness, Port Orleans, Key West, Saratoga) Truthfully it's kinda out of the way. It's on Apoka-Vineland Road, just a couple miles north of the Cross Roads shopping center.

Goodings - Just stay away from.... That's in the Cross Roads.

I'll try to get a map up when I get home...

There's also a SWM at the Sand Lake exit off I4 between Universal and Disney on your way in. The others are slightly out of the way. We normally take a 30 minute stop heading in, as our room is usually not ready when we arrive anyway.

Since you'll be driving, don't forget to stay away from tourist trap gas stations. Chevron here charges like 5 cents more a gallon if you don't pay with cash. I've highlighted a few of the stations I go to regularly that have good prices and good convience stores inside. Don't be afraid of the Hess stations on property, they only charge like 3 cents more a gallon than outside. The Blue lines are my suggested way out of Disney Property. Just remember, if you take Osceola PKWY past Gaylord Palms, you're gonna have to pay 75cents to get off at 535 to Wal-Mart.

I also marked on the map another publix location, this is the newest one. It's on Vineland Rd, the same one that takes you to the Prime Outlet Malls. So if you plan on stopping off there to do a bit of shopping at the Disney Outlet store (Which is a good suggestion to save a bit of money on suvies), you can stop off at the Publix right there.

PUBLIX!!!!! 100% (ok, I am biased) but... you can go online to the website and check out their weekly sales ad. (It starts every Thursday) and see what they have on sale for the time you are going to be there. They feature lot's of buy 1 get 1 free etc. besides, the service is soooooo much better than Walmart and the prices really aren't that different. (especially on food) :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone for the great tips and detailed info! I had put the super Walmart into a store locator and so many came up. I don't know the area well to know what was close/easy to get to. Not sure what time we will be arriving since we are driving with a 5 year old and 13 month old (not sure how many stops we'll have to make). Having all this store and even gas station info ahead time is a big help, thanks!

If you look at the map a few posts above, I would strongly suggest the Walmart at the corner of SR535 and Osceola Parkway. Since you are coming from NJ you can exit I-4 at SR 535 (Exit says Lake Buena Vista and Kissimmee) and head South about two miles. It is very large and not out of your way. And the Murphy Gas station in front of the WalMart I ahve found is always the lowest price gas in the entire area. I make it a point to fill up there whenever I pass it.

And from there you can get onto Osceola Parkway Westbound (75¢ cash only toll) which will take you right into WDW.

Well depending on the resort, it's probably easier to go back north and get on the 536/epcot center drive.

The murphy station is comparable to the Hess station next door, but I always feel more comfortable going to the Hess station on 536/internation Dr, right before the 417 ramp. I usually go inside and get a soda or snack when I get gas, so I try to go to clean stores and clean bathrooms. The Hess and Murphy just really aren't that nice and at night seems a bit questionable. But that's personal feelings.

Right now gas is averaging 2.49 at the stations on the way to Disney from Kissimmee. I filled the tank this morning for 2.51 at the MK's Hess station. You should probably look into the road trip planners that help pick out the closest gas stations to the major highways, and the prices. Nothing like getting jipped because gas a few exit down are 10-15 cents cheaper than where you filled up.

While I like the idea of stopping on my way in, I'm concerned that if I pick up milk, yogurt and any other items that need to be refridgerated, what if my room isn't ready for a while?

I'm preety sure I read some where that bell service will keep perishables in the fridge for you until your room is ready. Some one correct me if I'm wrong.

Helpful hint- any time you go anywhere, you can go to maps.google.com and type in the zipcode and walmart or whatever you want to find, and it will show you where they are!
