Super Goofs End of Summer August thread

Greetings from the post-race ice bath, Goofs! I survived my very first 10k as part of the Nike Human Race. Birmingham had a fair number of runners, which is encouraging to see in this relatively obese city. I was almost DLF -- only saw one finisher after me but there were 2 walkers after her; I hope they weren't DNF. My time was 1:24:12. Now I have a (slow) PR to (hopefully) shatter at RftT!

Great job, Kim! That's the great thing about a first time race--it'a always a PR.

I've been busy trying to wok on our HIgh School student directory, which is consuming my time this weekend. Takes even more time when a) people send you the wrong data files , b) there are may queries in Access required to generate output and I blew a few away by mistake! and c) did I mention my Access skills are probably a 4 on a scale from 1-10. Anyway, I have had two long walks with the dog this weekend--- 5 miles in 90 minutes. Definitely trying to keep his pace ups to tire him out!

Way to go, Ksoehrlein!

I'm always at the back- but I have the most fun!

I did the human race too this afternoon. I worked all day and this was the last thing I wanted to do!

Finished in 70 minutes (at home). It has not uploaded on the race page but it said to try again later. (double miles right?)

Way to go Kim! Don't think about all the people in front of you. Think about all the people that never even got off their couch. You are so fast that they never even saw you! ;)

We got the deck stained this weekend. What a complete nightmare that ended up being. Dh, the triathlete, says that he has never been in that much pain. Adding all those feet to the deck seemed like such a good idea when we were building the house......

Happy Labor Day, Goofs!

Work has been keeping me busy, so I haven't had a chance to post. I have a few miles to add for August...

running: 15 miles/163 min
cycling: 10 miles/45 min

Sep/Oct are going to be very hectic as well...we'll be spending lots of time out in the field. I'll try to get a few good bike rides in and post when I can.

Joanne...you were asking about how to attach the nike chip to a non-nike plus shoe...check out ebay. Do a search for "nike lacelid"...I have the Marware brand and it has worked out great...you can find a shoe pouch for about $7.00.

Hey Goofs!

I've got to make this quick but I will be posting more about this on the race report thread....

Finished the DL half this weekend! Woohoo! I think we ended up doing a full marathon that day due to all the walking in the parks afterwards. :teeth:

Sunday, Aug. 31:

Susie: 13.1 miles (double to 26.2), 3:12
Steve: 13.1 miles (double), 2:56

It was hot and muggy that morning....reminded me of Florida weather, no joke! It was a brutal out there but I finished and finished faster than I thought I would. Now I need to concentrate on getting thinner, faster and younger. Well, 2 out 3 maybe. :teeth:

Hope you all had a great Labor day weekend!

Hi all :flower3:
I hope everyone had a fantastic and safe labor day weekend. It finally stopped raining here since I last checked in and the weather has been fairly nice. Thankfully that lake by my apartment never got any fuller :)

I got really sick last Monday and am still kind of fighting it off (I ended up having strep :sad1:), so my miles and hours last week are terrible.

08/22 – 1hr pilates dvd, 3 mi/48:16
08/23 - 1hr pilates dvd, 3 mi/44:20
08/25 - 1hr pilates dvd, 2 mi/34:51
08/29 - 1hr pilates dvd
08/30 – 1hr pilates dvd

I got this killer pilates dvd months ago and never really used it much for some reason. I recently started using it as a warm-up before running and it works so much better then stretching for 30 minutes ever did.

I'm planning on kicking my training into high gear and working on an actual training plan. I've kind of been just winging it and doing whatever I am into that day as far as training goes, but it is getting to the point where it isn't challenging me anymore and I'm getting bored.

Has anyone ever tried Hal Higdon's 12-week novice half marathon training plan? Any thoughts/ideas/advice is greatly appreciated :goodvibes

Congrats on the DL Half, Susie and Steve! Can't wait to read your race report!
