Super Goofs are HOT, HOT, HOT in August

Hey Goofs! 5 mi for me today (R4/W1). Rest day tomorrow.

Steve: Where did you get the cool WISH/Goofs banner that you have on your signature? I've been trying to figure it out with no luck and can't find a thread with them anywhere on the boards.:confused3

Here is the thread I found that described how to do it: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2076963&highlight=userbar

IIRC, it was a little tricky to get at first but after checking out the site, it made sense. Please let me know if you have any trouble!

AFM, I ran a 10K fundraiser today at our local fairgrounds. I've been a little down most of the day as this was the first race I've run that I didn't like the experience at all. I lacked energy the whole race and I never found a good pace. My legs felt heavy and I struggled to get a good breathing rhythm the entire time and I could barely run my 4 minutes without stopping before my 1 minute walk breaks.

I've never struggled through a race this much before. I've had bad training runs but have always felt great on race day. It was pretty discouraging. My knees have both been bothering me since the race. It probably didn't help that we spent several hours at the fair afterward. My 3yo DD got hooked on the giant slide so I had to make countless treks up the stairs to slide down with her! At least we had a lot of fun together.

I'm sure most runners get into these funks and I will hopefully snap out of it soon. I think I'm going to take a few days off from running and do some XT exercises that are a lot less impact on my knees. After that, I may stick to the treadmill for a few weeks until my knees feel better.

Sorry to hear about your knee issues, Steve. I hope they're better soon and that you can hit the ground running in the near future.

Shannon, congrats on having your next race up on the calendar! I've heard San Antonio is a good time!

Mike, great job on your open water swims. You are one impressive Ironman!

As for me, I was very excited to see that the new paved walking path in my town is smooth and flat... well, except for the major hill you have to conquer to get from the parking lot to the path. It's one mile out and one mile back, so it won't be the best for long runs, but it will be terrific for doing the weekday 2-4 milers. Now I just need the cool fall weather to get here, and I'll be all set!

Hey guys! Just dropping in....to say 'hi' and that the workouts continue. My exercise streak has been maintained for every day this year (except one 1/26) My total mileage for the year is 1128.87! The streaks alive!

Beth

Wow, Beth! I am in awe. :worship: Congrats on your streak. Between you and Rich, I feel totally inadequate!

I am about 8 shirts short of putting in an AlertShirt order. So, if anyone wants one, please let me knoo ASAP.

Ordering site is here.

Thanks!
Carrie

Steve thanks for the link...I figured it out and updated my signature :thumbsup2 Hopefully you'll get out of your funk soon :goodvibes

Everyone else...keep up the training. For those of you on streaks...congrats...I don't know how you do it.

3 mi for me today...only 17 more days until I head back home :cool1:

Cool banner Shannon. Where did you find it? ;)

I allowed myself one day to be in my funk to get it out of my system. I woke up feeling great this morning. My knee is still a little tender though. I did 30 min of yoga this morning and will do some strength training tonight. I'm going to hold off on running until Thursday when I will do 40 easy minutes of 3R/2W on the dreadmill.

Great training everyone!

Hey there Goofs. Whatcha doing???

Just popping in to say that my running is back on track. Trying to get my miles back up to normal now. I have found that since my break, I am a little faster. Maybe I should take more breaks???!!! :confused3 I have 2 miles down this morning and 2 more to go later today. I woke up a little late and with the sun coming up later too, things are getting more difficult. I bought myself a new LED headlamp this weekend to try and convince myself that I can run in the dark. I don't seem to be listening to myself though...:sad2:

DD14 tried out for an elite softball team over the weekend. We are still waiting to see if she made the cut or not. There were lots of girls there and they opted for two 18U teams instead of a 16 and 18 team. She was trying for the 16U so we will have to see what transpires over the next few days. It is a lot of money and a lot of travel but, the bonus is that she gets to try out for the team that goes to WDW for spring training in Feb/March. :woohoo: I knew I had kids for a reason....

So, how's everyone doing and what are you training for this fall??? Me, Seacoast HM in Portsmouth, NH...

Shannon Yeah for you coming home!

Steve Glad to hear you are feeling better and are now "funk-free" (Say that 5x fast!)

Beth Wow--another streak-er!;) I didn't realize that you were doing stuff every day. Me---I gotta have those rest days.

Lisa Glad to hear that running is very positive for you lately. And fingers crossed for your DD.

I did a ladder today for my speedwork-1600,1200,800,400 at progressively faster speed. Felt challenged. Watching the World Champiionship Track & Field over the past week--always impressive.

Hi Goofs!

Sounds like everyone is keeping busy. Just updated the spreadsheet. School started yesterday so I'm trying to get back into the routine and see where my treadmill time will fit in. My daughter started high school so her bus time is 2 hours earlier that last year with middle school.

Looking for a September 5K, for some reason there are not many to choose from. There is one that I did last year and liked the race but the parking and getting to the start line was a nightmare.

Trying to get back to my last years Race for the Taste weight before this years race. I'm down 6 lbs so far, about 6 more to go!

Have a great day everyone!!!

9 miles, 90 minutes today.

Congrats for those who earned it, PD for those who need it.

Keep it up Goofs!!!!

mike

Lisa....my half is in ME...I think we're mixed up!

Called 4 YMCAs this morning, no pools open.

don't care about the rain, but I do care about riding outside in the dark with cars, so no biking...and I ran 9 miles yesterday, so a run today wouldn't be the smartest thing.

Jeez!

Liz, I need to meet up with you if the offer for the passes to Lifetime is still open, I'll be on the Cantera campus today and tomorrow (Winfield and 88) if that is anywhere near you....

Mike

Hey all,

Was it Mike or Steve that posted the story about the reporter who interviewed the winner and last person to cross to finish line for a race? I am looking for it and can't find it. Maybe I just imagined it?

You might have been looking for the wrong author. I posted a story like that, some time ago, which might be the one for which you are searching.

Thanks Rich, I was looking for the wrong author but that is the story I was talking about!!!

Hey Goofs!! :goodvibes

Angie, are you doing the Maine Women's Half? I tried to talk Kristi into that one but she wants to do the Seacoast Half which is a couple weeks later I think.

So, now, who is doing RFtT this year??? Line up now.....because.....wait for it....

I'm going to Disney World!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everyone thank Liz for this, I know I am. So whose bright smiley faces am I going to see there?????

Running is back on track. DD14 made the 18U softball team and I think we are in for quite a ride with this one. She has the potential to go "places". My eating is on track and even though I am not dropping any, I am feeling good again....finally....:woohoo:

Back to work :surfweb: before someone sees me...:rolleyes1

Oh captain, my captain! I finally get to meet you live and in the flesh because I will be at RFTT.

Yippee!

Maura

yup, that's the one I'm doing...

I am SO jealous now... I SO want to do the RFTT, but no job=no$...sigh...

Lisa/Maura have fun at RFTT...wish I could be there.

Crosstrain day for me today...got a 5 mi walk in.
