When did they decide to close Small World May 2nd? Last I checked before today it said closing was in June some time~I was feeling really happy about being able to take my 22 month old. Today I check and it says refurbishment May 2nd! I need some consoling now~I'm leaving in hours and I'm bummed.:(

They decided that about two weeks ago. One day it was closing in June and the next it was closing in May. We leave tomorrow and IASW is a classic and I always ride it, but not this time.

The Disney website suggest Pirates as an alternative. I don't quite make the connection (except maybe moving boats). Ha!

Finding out that a ride you were looking forward to will be in rehab during your visit is hard!!

On our last trip, RNR and BTMRR were both in rehab, and that totally bummed us out.

BUT - it gave us a whole reason to make another trip!!

I also don't make the connection from Small World to Pirates - while Small World COULD scare some people :hyper: , Pirates can be scary for a child.

I was sorry to hear that as well. We loved Small World actually, despite the song, it's so original. I don't see either how Pirates is an alternative. I would think maybe El Rio Del Tiempo would be considered the closest match.

UNLESS

They are going to test a new Johnny Depp AA figure in Pirates and he will sing, "It's a Small Small World..." Now there would be a sight.

Okay, let me get off the meds now. :)

Friends who went in April said the ride was pretty shabby looking so I guess its a good thing in the long run. Sorry you will be missing it and I hope your little one will enjoy Pooh and Peter Pan instead. I think I would wait on Pirates until you see how he/she does on the other "dark rides". I guess the boat ride in Mexico would be an alternative, the ending always reminds me of a small world without the song.

Have a great trip!

At first, I was really sad that IASW will be closed during our June trip. :( It's one of only two rides I've been on every single trip (the other being Haunted Mansion) and I'll really miss it. But then, after I thought about it and realized the reason it's being closed so long is they are taking the time to really fix it up, I felt better about missing it. I love this ride, and I'd rather miss it for one trip than have to see it falling into disrepair.

I'm sorry IASW will be closed for your trip - but hopefully you'll get to go back to WDW in the near future, and your child will be able to enjoy the ride in it's sparkly-new condition! :D

My DD3 will be crushed.:( She loved the ride during our August trip. During New Year's week it was packed so we kept putting it off and left before riding it. DD did not forget. She always reminds us that we forgot to ride it (and Pooh). We promised her that we ride it in June. Now it is closed:( !

Thanks for all the consolation guys~I'm feeling better already. Afterall, I will be in DISNEY in less than 15 hours!!! :Pinkbounc  BYE everyone!

I was bummed as well. I had heard it was to close at the end of May and much to my dismay it was closed last weekend when I went. I had really wanted to go since I missed it on my previous trip. I hope to get on it again real soon :teeth:
