Has anyone flown to Orlando or St. Petes with Sunwing this winter? With very early a.m. flights do they serve breakfast or is it for purchase only?

They serve a light meal/snack it was a warm egg/cheese on a croissant the last time I did a 6:30am YYZ to MCO about a year ago.. also the standard bits & bites snack.. soft drink/juice/coffee/tea If you check your flight info it will show a knife/fork icon indicating that a meal included in your fare will be served on your flight

The nice thing about flying Sunwing out of YYZ is there is a Tim Hortons right at the gate area. We always grab a coffee & breakfast sandwich while we wait to board.

That was our experience on our sole Sunwing experience as well....but admittedly, that was back in January 2009.

I will let you know - we are flying with them at 6:30 am this Wednesday. It does say on our ticket info that a meal is served. It's nice....all we got on our morning flight from Detroit to LA was cookies and pretzels...and it was a 5 hour flight!

I'll be interested as well. We have a 6:30am flight to Orlando in a few weeks. I am concerned because the flight isn't half full and I have heard that Sunwing will combine two direct flights together if there are too many seats unsold.

We've had that happen.. our 6:30 am flight was combined with the scheduled 11am flight a few years ago. We knew the night before because I'm a check-er.. We had enough time to reorganize the airline limo. Some didn't. There were many who hadn't checked the night before who had arrived at 4:30am expecting to fly. They were given breakfast vouchers... Just be sure to check 24 hrs before your scheduled flight time.

Many days Sunwing only has the one flight going.. I don't think they cancel on those days, they don't fly daily to MCO most times of the year & I can't imagine they'd push back by 3 days to a week.

So, we flew yesterday. The plane is very small and not a lot of leg room at all. But, it was clean and the staff were friendly. We did get a small breakfast - choice of egg on an English muffin or a warm croissant with cheese on it. I had the croissant and DH had the muffin. Both were good - for plane food. We also got free pop, juice, coffee or tea. We were given hot towels (more like warm baby wipes..lol) and free ear phones for the movie. They play Disney movies on Orlando bound flights. The screens drop down every three or so rows.

I'm a checker as well! As a matter of fact I checked Sunwing's schedule out of Halifax that whole day and flights going to anywhere in Florida that day from all Maritime airports and this is the only one I could find. So what I'm saying is there don't seem to be any flights that it can be combined with.

Was the flight on time? Which airport did you fly from? It sounds like you were satisfied with this flight. I hope your return is good, too.

Yes, flight was completely on time. We flew out of Pearson in Toronto. No troubles at all. My only complaint is what Pearson has done to the boarding area in the airport. They basically put diners where all the seating was. Now there's no room for people to wait to board. Most people were standing, and others were taking up several tables - some letting their kids play on them instead of letting others sit!! But those annoyances are with Pearson and people...not Sunwing..lol

Is Sunwing quite strict on carry on size?

It depends. We do carry-on only, and they didn't say anything about our weight. We were about 5.4kgs on the way down, and one bag was 6.2 on the way home. We only had the three bags though. They are very strict about total weight, so if you are checking bags and have a carry-on, they will charge you if the total weight exceeds the limit. They seem to be more strict in Toronto than in Orlando. For example, the weigh scales start at -1kg in Orlando. lol

For anyone interested, we were served a small three cheese pizza on the way home.

And only one carry on per person, right?

Yes, one carry-on per person. You can also bring on a personal item (ie. purse), although it's not advertised. I had read that some people were refused their personal item because their purse looked like a backpack, so I didn't bring the bag I normall do - I brought a large purse with my park purse inside like a wallet.
