We are staying at Kidani Village in October. We would really love to take the Sunset Safari that is only offered to guest that are staing at the concierge(club) level in Jambo House. We are thinking of trying to get 1 or 2 nights at concierge level so we can take the tour. We are looking for any ideas or opinions form anyone that has taken the tour or stayed at concierge. Do you think they will have any availability in concierge? Is it worth it to use the extra points just so we can take the tour? We have stayed concierge level in a few other Disney hotels in the past and love it. The tour just looks like it will be amazing. I know they offer one on the hotel safari grounds with Jiko dinner but we would really like the one at AK. Thanks for any ideas, thoughts, or suggestions..

Sunset Safari is offered to any AKL/AKV guest. You just pay a bit more if you are not concierge. This tours the AKL/AKV savanna, not the AK savanna and includes dinner at Jiko.

There are two tours that I have read about.. the one you mention is correct.. There is also one at AK that includes breakfast at Pizzafari, and is only for concierge.. That's the tour we are interested in...

That's the Sunrise Safari. Unless it's changed, it only offered on Sunday and Thursday mornings.

The tour at AK is the SunRISE Safari and as you say it is available only to Concierge guests. It takes place very early in the morning and includes breakfast. The SunSET Safari (real name: Wanyama Safari) takes place on the AKL/AKV grounds at 4pm and is available to any guest, but costs less if you are a Concierge guest. It includes dinner at Jiko.

We did both safaris. The Sunrise Safari follows AK's Kilimanjaro Safari route but at a slower pace and with a guide who provides a lot of information about the animals. The tour really starts when you board the bus that takes you from AKL to AK: the bus enters the AK park through a backstage area and you pass by some of the animal care facilities along the way. Your guide will give you information about how they care for the animals and answer any questions you have. The tour ends with a buffet breakfast. The tour is offered two mornings a week (Sun and Thurs?) and you must be staying concierge the night before one of those days, though I've read that some people have been able to sign up if they are checking into concierge on Sun or Thu.

The problem for DVCers is that AKV has very few Concierge rooms: five 2BR lockoffs total, so a maximum of 10 rooms if every one of those lockoffs was split up and rented as a studio and 1BR. In many cases those rooms book up 11 months out but some people have managed to book concierge 7 months out, depending on travel dates. Since you are just over 4 months from your travel dates, the odds of getting a concierge room at this late date are slim but it never hurts to try. Give MS a call and see if there is any availability. If it's fully booked you can ask to be put on the waiting list.

Also, in case you aren't aware, the AKV Concierge rooms are on the 6th floor and face either the Sunset Savanna or the pool area. You can request a savanna view but it is not guaranteed. The savanna view from the concierge rooms is not great -- those rooms face a small alcove of the Sunset Savanna and you are up so high that the tree tops block a lot of the view.

Thanks for all of the info Lisa. I really appreciate the help. We may just book a day or 2 concierge cash. Outside of our DVC points... We could book Sat night concierge room.. Then transfer to our DVC room on Sunday... We should still be able to take the Sunday Tour... The Sunrise Safari really sounds great.
