My DS8 hates sunscreen. He is fairly light and needs it on the face, neck and any exposed parts. He hads the feel and the smell. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

I just saw sunscreen that is supposed to feel dry when you put it on...I think it was at Target, maybe made by neutrogena?

Also, I love Clinique's sunscreen (spray or lotion). Some sunscreens work by sitting on the skin, these feel greasier and I don't like them very much either. Others rub into the skin...and feel better, silky smooth. Clinique's doesn't smell as bad as some others I have used in the past.

Or, maybe you can make it fun, see if he will let you use one of those that go on colorful and then disappear when they dry. I think Coppertone makes one, I have some from Avon that also has bug repellent in it.

Good luck...my DD 2.5 hated any sort of lotion (not just sunscreen) for months and just recently came around to letting me put it on her. (Thank goodness).

We love the spray on sunscreens that go on clear. Granted, they feel a bit like shellac-but they go on so easily and they really work. I know Coppertone and Neutrogena make them. Many others do too. Last year I also had a rub-on sunscreen--kind of like a stick deodorant. Neutrogena makes it, and the kids liked using it. :sunny:

We have a pool, my kids are fair and they hate sunscreen as well. When spray sunscreen came out I gave it a try. I like Coppertone, although others are o.k. too. Even though it says not to use on the face, we do and it works fine. I have the kids close their eyes when I am ready for their face. On the count of three they raise their hand to signal they are holding their breath then I spray away and give their chest a gentle push when I am done to get them backed up out of the cloud and they can take a breath. It's the ONLY thing they tolerate and it works. And since I'm a pale redhead myself, the spray is the only method I have of reaching my back by myself. The neighborkids deliberately come over without sunscreen on because they would rather get sprayed on than gooped up. I make them wait a few minutes before going outside or getting in the pool.

 Hi There--another mom to an 8YO boy who also is very particular about how things 'feel'.

Our sunscreen miracle? Bullfrog. QicGel SPRAY. Waterproof, sweatproof, SPF 36, goes on in a fine spray, dries quickly. We love it.

Neutrogena's new Anti Aging sunscreen is odorless and goes on dry! I love it. Don't get it confused with their other formula, which doesn't hype the anti-aging, 6 layer deep stuff. My kids say the other stuff from Neutrogena smells like "Old Ladies" (lilacs... :lmao: )

Well, no matter how much he hates it, don't let him skip in the Florida sun. (or any sun for that matter.) This is why the fine-mist sprays are a good choice; they are easy to apply, so you have a better chance of staying on top of using enough. They are not appropriate for use on faces, though; get a wax stick for that.

Sunscreen needs to be applied 30 minutes before you expose your skin to the sun, so our rule is that no one leaves the hotel room without it. We also reapply every 90 minutes, and anyone who won't sit still for it goes on no more rides until it is done. No procrastination will be tolerated.

I have a question about the new spray sunscreen. I saw some at the store the other night (I think it was Coppertone) and I was wondering if it is an aerosal? The only concern with that is I wasn't sure how aerosal does when you are flying. I didn't know if it would explode! Anyone know?

Absolutly do not let him skip it, however make it as easy as possible. The older kids love the sport spray on stuff. There is even one, coppertone I think, that is continous spray and so easy to put on. WE spray in into hands and then put in on faces. Let him go along and pick out what he like to give him more control. Plan reapply breaks along with snack breaks to make it easier to get him to reapply. Have lots of choices on hand and insist that eveyone lather up. My rule is if I am in charge of the kid( friends , nephews what ever) he has to wear sun screen.

On DD face I use the Coppertone Endless Summer Ultrasheer Sunscreen Stick, SPF 30 , soft and glides right on, no grabbing at skin like some others I have tried. Body wise we usually use Neutrogena Ultra Sheer, Dry-Touch Sunblock, SPF 45, and have just started tyring out the Neutrogena Fresh Cooling Body Mist Sunblock, SPF 45.
