We leave for WDW in 6 days, and I am rearranging my luggage after hearing about the new restrictions (no liquids, gels, creams of any kind in carry ons).

We are taking a red eye, arriving at MCO at 6:45, checking in at POR and heading straight to the parks. We are using ME, and can't get to checked bags for a while. So my question is: What is the best way to get sunscreen?

I figure on one of the following options:

1. Cry while paying disney prices for sunscreen. (how outrageous would the price be?)
2. Pick up my own bag from baggage claim before going to ME bus. (not sure if bags even come out- do I just leave the yellow tag off of the bag that has the sunscreen in it?)
3. Sunscreen wipes. I've never used them, and DS burns VERY easily, so I don't know if the wipes will give enough coverage.

I'm over-obsessive, I know, :confused3 but We've never been to WDW before, so I'm hoping to get your advice on what would be easiest, most practical for me, DH, and DS's 9 and 5.

I think the easiest solution would be to pack the sunscreen in your checked bags, and carry on the sunscreen wipes. They work rather well, and would be fine for the day, then just use the lotion the rest of the trip.

I was thinking the same thing this morning. I am figuring that for our normal "Park Bag", we will check it, but pick it up ourselves from the carousel. We would probably just leave the ME tag off of it.

Me and DH also have eye drops and contact solution and stuff that we would want right away. So I think this is what we will do, if they still have the new security stuff in place next week.

Personally, I'd just deal with the Disney prices and buy a small bottle of sunscreen after you arrive. Even if it costs twice as much as you would usually pay, it's worth the extra 6 or 7 bucks to avoid the hassle involved with the alternatives.

Agree, just buy a tiny little bottle at WDW to use the first day!

I would go with option 2 and leave off the yellow ME tags or I would check to see if the aerosol sunscreen would be allowed (I just love the stuff-no rubbing). Coppertone and Banana Boat make it along with the store generics.

I don't know how much the sunscreen wipes go for, but we only paid $6 for a small size sunscreen (the one that can clip to your belt)at the Magic Kingdom this May. So my recommendation is to just buy it and use it for your 'park' sunscreen for your trip. Have a fabulous time! We leave next week as well and I'll need to put some thought into the carry-on scenario. Can't wait, can't wait, can't wait!!!!! :sunny:

I don't believe that aerosol bottles are allowed in the cabin at all, even before this. I have traveled with them but I know people who have had them taken away.

Also, no stick sunscreen right now. They are not even allowing lip balm! No food or drinks even if you purchase them in the terminal.

We ran out of sunscreen when we were there in early July and I had to buy some at the resort. It was $13.00 for a can of spray coppertone. Over twice as much as I had paid at home before we left.

We're doing what Jenny said-we're taking one carryon size bag with sunscreen etc. , leaving the ME tags off it, checking it w/the rest of our luggage, and picking it up at baggage, then taking it on the ME bus. The rest of the bags we'll have the tags on and let them deliver it. It may take a little more time, but easier and cheaper in the long run as we also need contact lens supplies, and some other liquid/cream items upon arrival.

Use the stick sunscreen. We are whitest family of all whites...we burn so easily and I used it all summer on my boys. They didn't get burned...

I like the idea of leaving one tag off of 1 bag, it might be handy for other things as well that you want in the park but don't want to lug on the plane.

I guess I need to do a little research, I always pack all my toiletries in my carry on. In fact besides a change of clothes that is all I bring. What happens if you get stuck somewhere without your bags and items you need?

You might find it in the airport, too. But, I'd just buy it there. You'll be waiting nearly 30 minutes for your bag on the carousel. 30 minutues is probably worth $6.

My 12 year old DS is extremely fair and sun sensitive (and hates being sunblocked...just great when you live in FL!) and we have used the wipes/towelettes for the past 18 months. I bought them hoping it would ease our battles about needing the sunblock in the first place, and they have been a blessing.

We found them to work really well, and to provide a very liberal application with little mess or waste.

you can use the divide and conquer method... while one person goes to the DME counter and waits there/checks in/heads to the bus line the other person can go grab the small bag w/no DME tag on the carousel...

we've been quite pleased w/the sunscreen wipes... the only place i've found to buy them is www.spwipes.com

I used the wipes all last summer and LOVED them. Never a burn, always super convenient.
