Budget minded of course ;)

I'm sure there is a thread around here about this topic, but can't find it now.

I've never had to worry about sunscreen for sensitive skin before, but I put some sunscreen on DS7's right cheek and back of his neck Saturday afternoon (we were at a sporting event & the sun was going down and it was hitting right at that spot). Didn't notice anything that day or even the day after....but Tuesday & Wednesday night after he was out playing and getting all hot.....I noticed that right cheek & back of his neck broke out into a rash. For the life of me I couldn't think of what could have caused it, until it hit me---must have been the sunscreen?? That's the only thing different I used, and the only place I put sunscreen on him. Thought it was weird it showed up days later, but he is a 7 year old boy....no telling if he actually washed those body parts lately. :rolleyes1

ANYWAY...not wanting to take any chances..........what sensitive skin sunscreen do you use, and where do you get it? I imagine it'll be more expensive that regular old Walmart brand.

My kids all have sensitive skin. We've had good luck with Blue Lizard for my DD who is most sensitive. It costs a bit more - maybe $10-12 a tube or so. I get it at CVS. The other kids use Neutrogena which is very reasonable priced at Costco (two tubes $15, I think). Sometimes if we are swimming, I do use Blue Lizard on all of them because it lasts longer in water.

I have severe eczema and chemical allergies and I use vanicream sunscreen. I don't know what you mean by "budget" but it cost about $15 or $16 a tube.

It is the only sunscreen I don't react to

Myself and my kids are allergic to PABA (parabens). Last summer I found a Neutrogena Sensitive sunscreen at Target that is PABA-free. It worked great and was not as expensive as the Alba I was using. Avon used to make one that I liked, but I don't know if they still do.

DD6 is allergic to the oxybenzone in sunscreens. We have had okay luck with certain types of "baby" lotions for cheaper...but we usually buy Blue Lizard as well. It's $$$ though!

Neutragena Sensitive was recommended by my dermatologist. It's not 'budget' but I doubt my doc has specific interest in recommending it. She told me she could get me something even more expensive if the Neutragena didn't work but it's good. My skin is really sensitive-sunscreen burns me, makes me break out. I use baby lotions for my arms and legs because they are tougher.

Another Blue Lizard fan here...they have regular, sport, sensitive and baby i believe. It is a little expensive (maybe $12 a bottle), but a little goes a looong way. I have 4 children and have been using BL for about 6 years now, and can honestly say that my kids have never had a sunburn with this..even my youngest who was born last Feb., i used it on him all last summer (even in WDW in August) with no problems.
It is very white when you first put it on, but rubs in nice and is so waterproof that the kids have water droplets all over when they get out of the pool..lol

***wanted to add that my kids are very fair and have VERY sensitive skin, this might be the only sunscreen they have not had a reaction to (California baby works good too, but that is just too expensive for the size of the bottle)

Blue lizard baby! It's the only kind I've found so far that my kids aren't allergic to!

thanks so much!

Does the Blue Lizard brand actually have a "sensitive skin" line? Or all they all just formulated that way? thanks

My dermatologitst recommended this as well. I haven't had any problems since.

Yes there is Blue Lizard baby, sensitive, sport, & regular. We've only used the baby & it works well! Neutrogena sensitive still gave my kids rashes...

We figured out that my DD was allergic to the sun lotion during our first cruise. She broke out in hives wherever we applied the sun lotion. From then on I have been using Neutrogena baby. Our doc thinks she is allergic to the zinc in most sun lotions. It comes in a three ounce size that can be put in your luggage.

Blue Lizard baby and Blue Lizard sensitive skin are actually the same product, they just package it different for the grown-ups. ;) DD and I have sensitive skin and we are blue lizard fans too.

Thank You! I've wondered what the difference was!!

My son has the same problem. I stay away from anything coppertone. We had luck last year with aveno. My son is 7 but I think it was baby formula. Our dermatologist suggested blue lizard but I never saw it anywhere. After reading the thread I will look at cvs.

When he was younger baby blanket worked but it didn't the last two years. The aveno gets expensive but it is better than a rash.

I have extreme skin sensitivity to chemicals and I sunburn easily. I have been using Aveeno baby for the past several years and really like it. It doesn't feel really greasy or take forever to rub it into your skin like some of the other brands. :thumbsup2
