Sunpass Merging with EZ Pass

I believe I read Florida will join EZ pass later this year. I'm thinking of getting a Sunpass for our Spring trip but haven't decided on the transponder or the mini transponder. If it's true, I think we'll get the mini since we already will have EZ Pass for our Fall trip. If not, the regular one (so we can re-use it). Has anyone heard anything about this?

I know that there is a federal law saying that all states' electronic toll collection systems must be "interoperable" by the end of the year, but I haven't seen any statement from SunPass or the other agencies saying that they will be able to meet that requirement.

My sunpass has worked on all ezpass tolls for years...

Sunpass has long been interoperable with Florida's Epass but never before with northeast states' EZpass.

There are some third parties (such as Platepass) that have agreements with different states where the transaction starts off as a tollbooth violation and the third party pays the toll and collects from the vehicle owner.

SunPass also has interoperability with GA & NC. Those agencies were the pilot programs for interoperability. But not EZpass as of yet.

it is a work in progress

it is the reason the older style portable SUNPASS - the one that beeps and needs a battery has been discontinued as of 1 Jan

there was a program to get a free replacement but if you didn't partake last year you are out of luck. According to the website the old style does not work anymore. I got my free replacement a year ago . .

the new portable is needed to support the interop' project
