Sunday's Surprise Soujourn - We're going to WDW JAN 2011! Updated 9/15

You know how I mentioned that I had a health related issue, and that is what originally sparked returning to my "happy place"?

Well, it appears that DH has been doing some thinking. On his own. Like a big boy. :rotfl:

We had his parents over for dinner, and he asked his Mum if she wouldn't mind watching DD for three or four days. I was all :confused3 because this is the first time I had heard such a thing. His Mum asks what we'll do for three or four days (to which I think he's going to say "do some home renos" or something)

But then he says:

"Because I'm thinking I want to take Sunday to Las Vegas"

:scared1::scared1::scared1:

O. M. G.

I've always wanted to go to Vegas. DH has never really wanted to go, but we've had so many friends that have said what a good time it is that I knew his mind was being changed.

But here's the thing:

1) We are saving like mad people for a potential mat leave that I may be taking in the next year - 18 months, so "we" can't afford it, because (see point 3) and...

2) I don't have any vacation left in 2010, and am quickly running out of vacation in 2011 because (see point 3 also)

3) I BOOKED US AT DISNEY!!!

I want to go to Vegas. I SOOOOO want to go to Vegas. And it seems like DH is simply thinking along the same lines as me...happy place, need a break, take some time and heal etc. His head went Vegas, mine went to Disney.

While I am still hoping that Vegas stays on the table (DH may just have had the idea and not thought it all through yet) I also hope that it is delayed a little...at least until mid to late 2011. I don't want to have to spill the Disney secret either.

WORST CASE SCENARIO:

DH has already booked Vegas as a "surprise". :scared1:
I really hope this isn't the case, but aaaahhh, I'd love to go to Vegas too.

CONFUSED!!

OH! WOW!!! you guys are great....:rotfl2:
well for the vacay time part of it...do you guys work on the weekends?!? you could do it on a weekend maybe leave late or early on a Friday and come back late on a Sunday or early Monday?!?

But, although Vegas was a cheap thrill when DH and I last went(1994-Wow didn't realize it had been THAT long) I have heard things are not so cheap any longer (the rooms, food, and cabs). Vegas is a really fun adult Disney Land! and my DH loved it...I loved seeing the resorts! maybe you could talk and find a way to maybe get him to agree to a trip in late spring or summer...

don't know what to say! I just think it is so awesome that you guys are both working on awesome trips...at least with Disney ALL three of you get to spend time together. Maybe a weekend alone at a local B&B will sufice for the time being?!? for some adult time

Good luck!!!

Hi, I'm enjoying reading you pre trip resort so far, your adr's match alot of what we have done in the past and plan on doing again. That's so awesome that you are surprising your dh and dd, I'm holding off on telling my kids until we are a month away from our trip but I don't think I could get away from keeping it from my dh, I get so excited with the planning I would need to share it with someone. I guess that's what the disboards are for though I guess huh;)

Great trip report! I love reading your thinking behind things...

We surprised our son last time we went Jan 2008 at Christmas. We had a large wrapped box, with smaller wrapped presents inside. A letter was the first thing he opened. It was from Mickey (using Disney font) saying what a great boy he'd been and how proud Mickey was of him. Mickey then invited DS down to spend some time with him in his Flordia home (we'd already visited him in CA). My son was confused at first, then began pleading with us to accept the invitation and then was so so so overjoyed. The small trinkets, (kids guide book, mickey keychain with "key to the world", and a t-shirt) really helped it seem real.

We're surprising him and his younger brother (it will be his 1st trip) this time the day we leave. Instead of the school bus picking him up, Mickey is going to send a limo to pick us all up. Inside the limo, another note from Mickey! It'll be great.

Last time DS was almost 4. We did rope drop and CS lunch, then back for a nap. He was "past" the nap stage but we all needed it. With so much excitement we were wiped by noon (our goal was to leave before we noticed we were tired). We toured again (more like saw details we missed in the morning) during the evening. It was MUCH more relaxed. We also spent one day out of the parks. We slept in, rented a boat at POR and cruised the rivers. We did dinner at Hoop de Do that night. It was so much fun. Again we experienced things we wouldn't have seen before.

Good luck with the Vegas/Disney thing. I have a feeling it will all work out!

Just read this and now I want to know if it is Disney or Vegas or even Both????? :cool1:

Cool! I wanted to update everyone today and was so glad you posted Vroom!

Here's how the lead up and the reveal went!

In the weeks leading up to Christmas Day, I spent almost every day on DIS plotting and planning. I downloaded the Ultimate Packing List, and starting squirrelling away all of the bits and pieces that we will need. The Dollar Store was my regular lunch date, ha!

I placed the Garden Grocer order, bought a couple of princess dresses for Olivia, and made an amazing (if I do say so myself) photo guidebook on Blurb.com. All was well.

Husband all of a sudden begins talking Vegas (as I mentioned above). I am nervous...too much money, would he "surprise" me for Christmas etc etc.

I needn't have worried, because on November 17th...I found out I was pregnant! Yes, I have a new Disney fan ready for deployment in August 2011.

Although Hubby never said anything to the contrary, I was pretty assured that Vegas was now out. We're thrilled, celebrating, etc.

Then hubby drops yet another bombshell...he starts dropping hints about DISNEY. Saying things like "if we DID go back, where would I want to stay?" and "if we did go back, are there any deals?". It got every so suspicious. Then I began to worry that he'd thinking about surprising us with Disney instead.

:scared1:

At the end of the day, Christmas Day came and I received a very nice handbag, so I was confident that nothing further was to come, phew.

After all of the presents were opened, I "found" a scroll in the Christmas tree addressed to Olivia. I handed it over to Hubby to read to Olivia. Here is the video of what happened next:

CLICK ON THE PIC OF MY PIN COUNTDOWN CALENDAR FOR VIDEO!

Yeah, not quite the whooping reaction I had hoped for, but trust me, over the course of days and now the week later, he is thrilled and totally excited. He opened and devoured the Blurb.com book, and Olivia loves her countdown calendar. Olivia is beside herself. Literally, she is so excited she is standing beside herself. Every morning we wake up, go downstairs, and take a pin off the countdown calendar and add it to her lanyard. Then we count the days left. In hindsight, it's a little cruel to spring that on a kid who doesn't yet fully understand the concept of time...she wanted to go NOW. If I was to do it over, I might give her two days or so to digest so that she isn't bouncing off the walls for 29 days.

So there you have it! I have more PTR info to add, so I'll compile and pop it in over the next few days!
