Since I was a kid my mom (and now I still do) used Noxema creme (the kind in the blue jar)on my burns. It cools and moisturizes. But beware it can feel really cold when it goes on a burn!

I am VERY fair...and I usually try to avoid to much sun..but with my love of all Disney..it is sometimes tough too...

I am a big fan of the aloe too. I also am very fair skinned. I rarely let myself get very burned anymore, I usually use an spf 45 atleast. I think banana boat is the best. But boy if I miss a spot!! woof! I love the aloe plant because you can literally take a stalk of it, cut it open and put it on your sunburn and it just makes it alright.
Im a long sleeve big hat spf 45 girl in the summer.
I havent ever tried the noxzema but the cool factor sounds very refreshing.

As a redhead and mom of a redhead, I've seen my fair share of burns. The first thing we do is take a cool shower. It helps take the heat out. I usually have my daughter take a few of them the first 24 hours. Pure aloe is the best for putting on the burn. My Mom always had an Aloe Vera plant when I was little to use in case of burns. The other aloe gels are good if no plant is handy. Lots of water to rehydrate of course.
Prevention is the best! We're headed to Disneyland in July and I've set the ground rules of no tank tops because shoulders burn so easily and usually first. And I told my daughter she could pick out any hat she wanted as long as there was a bit of a brim to protect the face. And scads of Nutrigena (sp?) sunscreen. After getting a bad burn a couple of weeks ago when visiting her father:mad: , she is quite content to go along with my suggestions.
Those are things I try to do. I'm looking forward to seeing other people's suggestions!

ty, yes I have this cool hat i need to find it its summer again here I dont go out much at all and wa sgetting a phone across the street the one i wanted wasnt there so was sent to two diffrent stores on the bus.

I have ocean potion aloe gel, and real aloe. Im askign my DH to get me some of the plant again. maybe it will help more then the gel for now.

what sucks is trying to sleep

I haven't had a bad burn in a looong time, but i have done Noxema, aloe and the cold shower too... All seem to work pretty good. A lady once told me that preparation H cream works for sunburns. I have heard it's good for bags under the eyes, but I haven't tried it for a sunburn.

Solarcaine, available at Walgreens, makes a medicated aloe gel as well as a spray. They are both very soothing for sunburns.

The best bet is to spray your shoulders with those spray on sunscreens to prevent getting the burn in the first place.

Solarcaine, is the stuff my mom in law had laying around and i have used what was left of it. it felt so good lol. im thinking of a cold shower after my bath. Just make sure not to let the hot water touch it what so ever. TY every one for your sugestions..oh and now im not leavign the house with out putting sun stuff one or my umbrella lol

I'm a noxema guy too. Also quite fair, and burn VERY easily. We always have noxema in the house, because it's always worked the best for me. It might feel cold - but it sure WORKS, and fast to soothe the pain of the burn. The cold feeling really helps with that too. Like anything though, you'll probably have to reapply later on, usually several hours later. I've tried aloe (took longer to work) and solarcaine (made the burn hurt worse when sprayed on) - but definitely prefer noxema. It's definitely a personal preference though.

I took a squeeze pump bottle along with me last summer on a Boy Scout trip to the sand dunes at Lake Michigan - and all but one of the boys that were burned were unfortunately NOT prepared - and all of them ended up getting noxema'd - and were so very thankful that one of their leaders was ready such an unpleasant occurance. This year as we're planning the trip, several have already asked me if I'll be bringing it along again - to which I asked them why they couldn't just bring their own?!? now that they know what they're in for!

I'm sure you've heard it before, but if you liberablly apply the sunscreen early in the day, and then reapply it often throughout the day, I've found it helps to minimize the burns. I like the spray bottle kind in the parks - much easier to use than applying cream or lotions.

I have to agree about the solarcane....last summer I ended up getting a bad burn (after applying and reapplying 45spf!)...the solarcane actually made the burn more uncomfortable and I found it was sticky and did nothing...then I went to the store for my noxema!

Any of my fellow pasty people (lol) have a good sunscreen? I feel as if I have tried everything and I am not wearing long sleeves in WDW,DL or on my DCL!

i thought the solicane would hurt but finely gave in and used it. it seemed to help so much i just wish we had more. I need to find my old sunscrean stuff or buy new one.. this is the first time out this season and boom hit like this..well im glade my son didnt go with us the secoudn trip out. I am finding my hat for my next trip out and keeping my unbrella close

I will look for the noxema stuff if for nothing else just some extra pain killer next time. even if its cold. my dh says its gressy i said if it works allw ell he laughed

I use Coppertone Kids SPF 50 continuous spray. I figure if it is good for a baby's butt, then it will protect me just fine.:rotfl:
BTW, am I the only one that tried real aloe and found that it burns worse? The last time I had a bad burn I had to go to the doctor for medicated cream. Now, I just use kids sunscreen with a high spf and do fine. I also wear a hat now.

I just bought this for our EB Panama Crossing in Aug! So hopefully it will work for me too!

Don't forget, it's not just the pasty people that get burns.

Dh is very fair, but our kids are various shades of brown, being that they are african american. Being in Washington state, I had never worried much about my kids getting a burn. Our first trip to Disneyland, and oh, my goodness! They each got a burn the first day! I was mortified! But being that they are naturally brown, it quickly just darkened on them, and I made sure to keep some sun screen on them. By the time we got back, they were almost twice as dark as normal. Must be nice, huh?

That is what I use for sunburns. I burned my hand really bad when I was cooking one time and DH got up at 3 in the morning and the pharmacist showe him both of those. So any time anyone has any kind of a burn I us both at the same time.

Okay--as a fair-skinned red head, I am used to the burn. Although I use sunscreen with 50 spf anytime I am in the sun, invariably at one time during the summer I miss some spot. Last weekend I got my first (and hopefully only) burn of the summer. I used the solarcaine stuff, which usually works wonders, but it didn't seem to help this time. So I started on an old remedy my grandparents used: vinegar. It really took the sting out--just poured some on a rag & held it to the sunburn part for about 15 minutes. As soon as the rag began to get warm again, I added some more vinegar. I was amazed at the relief I got. It did, however, seem to make my skin really dry. But I'll take dry over burn! I've also heard of soaking a cloth in milk and then applying to relieve the pain. Never heard of noxema, but I think I'll be trying it next time.

They are kinda spendy, but they also make clothes that have SPF in them. It's all about prevention. ::yes:: My mom has skin cancer on her face from living in SoCal for so long, so lather up on the sunscreen and do all you can to prevent burns! :furious: It's not worth it!

We use the Coppertone kids stuff, too, spf 45-50 or something like that. But I didn't like how it felt greasy on my face, so I also bought a tube of Coppertone Oil Free Faces, spf 30. That felt better for my face, and worked well. I kept one of those solid sunblock sticks in my waist pack to reapply to faces and shoulders during the day.

Also, we used the time waiting in line for the gates to open as our "everybody oil up" time. Then I would whip out that stick to reapply, later in the day while we waited in line for a ride or a snack.

Sunburns suck! Owie! :worried:

Prevention is the key! In summer at DL or WDW you can't just apply it in the morning and then expect it to last all day. Stick a sample size of sunscreen in your fanny pack and reapply throughout the day.

I have found aloe vera gels to be the most soothing on a sunburn. Also a cool washcloth on the burn.
