Sun-Thurs Travelers: Did your travel habits change after joining DVC?

Were you always a Sun-Thurs traveler?

  • Yes. Sun-Thurs has always been my preferred time.

  • No. The low Sun-Thurs points convinced me to change my habits.

  • No. I have and always will travel when I want regardless of points.

Seems like Sun-Thrus travelers are the most effected by the points changes. I am curious to see if you have always been Sun-Thurs, or if the low DVC weekday points convinced you to change your travel habits. I know it changed mine!

We have just joined and haven't taken our first trip home yet. But it's funny you'd post this question....just today DW and I were discussing a short first-trip home and I suggested that we consider traveling on weekdays.

We may have some logistical issues on this particular trip, but in the future, I think we could handle traveling on weekdays. I'll be interested in hearing some more feedback from other Dis-DVC-ers.:earsboy:

Before DVC, I usually stayed Thursday to Tuesday to take advantage of lower airfares mid-week. With DVC, I started Saturday to Friday so that I would have only 1 weekend night.

We joined DVC with the intention of driving to WDW from Michigan over spring break. Our oldest DD just started kindergarten and the youngest is in preschool so we have many years of school to work around. Our plan was to leave Friday, after school, and arrive mid-morning on Sunday. We would check out early Friday morning and arrive home late Saturday night. The kids (and us!) would have Sunday to recoup before heading back to school. For us, it is still a week's vacation, but only 5 nights are at WDW. We can't afford to fly over spring break so this was our plan. Now that the points have been reallocated, we're thinking of doing an early June trip one year, spring break the next and then a year off. We won't be able to stay in savanna view 2BR's at all, but at least we can still go and don't have to rely on studios only.

We bought the number of points we thought we could afford and figure out what we can do based on that number. Our trips are usually 6 nights, but we have done 5, 7 and 10 as well.

I hate to move and so we do not move unless we are spending part of the vacation at the beach or Universal/Sea World. I do not see that pattern changing.

If necessary (we do have a small point buffer), we'll either stay a day or two less, stay in a studio instead of a 1 bedroom or even occasionally skip a trip.

I voted No....Sun-Thurs changed my travel...but that is not quite right.

In fact I still stay the same....actually usually 1 night more.

I have been arriving on Thurs....paying cash for 3 nights...then going to my 1BR villa on Sun. This allowed me to stay in a 1BR...and not a studio.

Now that we travel without kids we travel mid-week to save on the airfare so this doesn't change our plans at all.

We bought 100 points resale and always planned on Sun-Thur stays. At first we planned to go 2 out of every 3 years. Then last year we bought 50 more to go every year. Even with 150 points, we had to borrow 10 points a year for a 2 bedroom in choice season. We have two small kids, and we like to take one of our siblings and their kids and stay in a 2 bedroom. With the new points charts, we will have to borrow 25 points instead of 10.

my next two trips are sunday through thrusday trips: Presidents week, and third week of July. I became a Sunday thru Thrusday traveler so that i could take my DD5 to the world @least 3x a year. Our Thanksgiving trip is Tues thru Friday only bc of the holiday. I guess I will have to make due in 2010 probably will go for one longer trip (10 days...I only have 160 pts). I will have to figure it out.

And probably it will be better for her to lighten up on the WDW travel and explore other parts of the country or the world. So I am definetely leaning towards banking most if not all of my OCT 2009 pts. since I have no real interest in traveling next yr @least until I figure out the best use of pts with the new charts. I only have 90 points left for my '09 UY since my Thanksgiving trip in Nov used up 70 pts.

Here's to hoping that every single DVCer still gets to enjoy their DvC regardless of changes in the point structure.pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust:
