Now that summer is on its way in many parts of the country, please heed this Public Service Announcement (or hidden vent
)
I am an adult. I'm married. I have post-graduate degrees. I've worked my entire life outdoors. I am fully aware that my skin will, on occasion, turn pink if I'm in the sun for some time.
Just because I look a little lobsterish, does not mean you have the invitation to poke my skin to see if I'm burned. Nor do I want to be asked if I've put on sunscreen.
I have, I promise, but thank you for the concern.
This is especially true if I've never met you before.
Also, please refrain from the comments of "You must spend a lot of time outdoors!" or "You got some sun this weekend!" Actually, yes I did. I get sun every time I walk outdoors, as do you.
It is entirely not my fault that I turn red (note, I said red, not sunburned) easily in the heat. It's the way my veins are built. It happens when I'm working out too. You should see me after a particularly strenuous swim set. It looks like I've been on the sun with no protection.
Perhaps it is possible someone could get sunburned and not know it....But having been sunburned a few times here and there, I was fully aware it was happening!
Again, I've put on sunscreen, I have no need to be reminded of it. But thank you for your concern.
(can you tell this has happened to me more than a few times this past week!)
