Just wondering if anyone had stayed at the Summerfield Suites in LBV and how it was. We (DH,DS 2.5 yrs and myself) are going to WDW in April 2003 and will be staying here. We are not big on eating out, so needed to stay somewhere that had a full kitchen. Any comments would be appreciated!:D

We stayed at the SS this past September and it was great. We had a 2 bedroom suite and found that the room was enough - not huge, but enough. We have 3 little ones (my oldest is 3 and my two youngest - twins are 18 months) plus my wife, myself and a Grandma. The bedrooms were a good size - no issues there and each had a bathroom which was great!! The living room/kitchen was a decent size (could have been bigger) but certainly worked for us (especially when the kids were napping - you had somewhere to go. The kitchen area was good - full fridge which allows for stocking up on bottles of water, snacks, etc.. for the parks, pool days, etc.. We didn't use the stove, but it is available.
The pool was great - big, lots of room and the my kids loved the "kiddie pool". The hot tub was nice after a long day in the parks.

And we thought the "free" breakfast was great. It had all the basics (coffee, cereal, fruit. muffins, bagels, etc..) An omlette or Waffles were available but you had to pay for them. We are not huge breakfast eaters so it was perfect to feed the kids and the adults - then go to the parks - Convenient and a HUGE $$$ saver.

Have fun - we have another reservation there next September (but are looking into bigger places - villas, etc.. as we need the room).
Have fun

Thanks so much for the great info! That makes me feel at ease knowing that it is so nice. Your comments were very helpful and it sounds like we will really enjoy!

HH,
I too appreciate the info, my DH,BIL and his wife and I have ressies for Jan 18th for the 2 bedroom suite. This sounds just like what we need.
A question about transportation, did you use the shuttle to the parks or did you have a car? We are thinking about renting a car but if the shuttle works good, will use that for the parks. Was it very far to Downtown Disney? We aren't much for driving around Orlando, if we can use shuttles we will!
OK another "?" is it close to shop for food to do own cooking of meals.

Thanks:)

Bobbidibo,

We rented a Minivan as we needed it the kids. We didn't deal with the shuttles as they were only available for certain times so you had to work your schedule around them. We also didn't want to deal with waiting for shuttle, strollers, room on a packed shuttle - the van was the way to go.

SS is very close to DTD, I would say a 5 minute drive (but I wouldn't want to walk it). Hotel Plaza Blvd. is a block away - hang a right and your there in a few minutes.

You have lots of restaurants to choose from all within walking distance (TGI Fridays, Chili's, Shoney's Perkins, etc...) There is also a Winn-Dixie right behind the hotel so you can easily stock up on whatever you need.
I hope that helps.

HH,
I am new to this post and have gotten such great information! Thanks for your help!:)

HH,
Since you have been so helpful, I had another question for you! You mentioned having 3 littles ones-3 and 18mo old twins, can you share what restaurants you went to and which the kids liked best? We plan on doing a few meals out that our then-almost 3 yr old will enjoy. Thanks!

I'm happy to share the info. - these boards have helped me so I'm just doing my share.

As far as restaurants go, to be honest, the best place that my kids liked the most (besides in the parks) were Perkins and Shoney's. Both are down the street from SS. Shoney's has a good buffet, so the kids could get a little of everything (Although the dinner buffets vary every night - I couldn't do a seafood buffet - no way!!) Perkins also has a good selections so it's a good choice.

Both places have GREAT prices on kids' meals.

One place I would recommend that I would NOT RECOMMEND is "Jungle Jim's" in the Crossroads Plaza. - The food was bad and the service was worse.

I hope this helps.

HH.
Thanks for the info:D
Looks like a rental will be the best way to go and thanks for info about restaurants I'm glad to hear there are some within walking distance.
58 more days until we are there
:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

BTW if you can handle a 3yo and 18mo twins it should be a piece of cake for us 4 adults, glad to hear you had a good time and are booking at SS again:wave:

This hotel is a great value for a family . We have stayed at both of these in the area and liked both but especially liked the LBV location! It is really close to DD though not close enough to walk. Some great restaurants in the area also. Have a great time.:D :D
