Summer vacation destination that's not so blazing hot!

We live in MA, so are not interested in the Northeast. We'd be willing to fly, either in the US or abroad. Two adults, maybe 7 nights, total budget of 3k. We're also not opposed to flying to a destination and than driving to various sights. We'd like a combination of sightseeing, hiking, etc, with a bit of relaxation.

Thanks is advance!

Iceland? Would be nice and sunny (a lllllllll day and night long). Ireland or Scotland? Montreal, Canada?

Washington, Oregon, Chicago, Washington D.C., Busch Gardens VA, Cedar Point, Hershey Park, Branson MO.

Southern South America. It'll be winter there :)

Living in Tucson, lots of people around here do cooler vacations in the summers. A lot of people go to the Colorado Rockies or the Pacific Northwest for summer vacations to escape the heat.

The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. We went there in August and it was gorgeous weather.

We are going to Colorado in June. From what I understand, it doesn't get super hot there (Estes Park to be exact).

I would second Iceland, except it can be pricy. It's completely amazing, but you'd need to look at costs pretty carefully depending on your travel habits.

I'd pick Scotland, as I haven't been there yet.

Does the 3000 include airfare? Because just hotels will easily wipe out half of that in somewhere like Colorado and the Oregon coast.

I love Seattle too, but hotels have gotten SO expensive in the summer.

But maybe offset that by doing a combination of Seattle and Onp or the Cascades?

Washington DC and VA are blazing hot in summer. Especially for a New Englander who's not used to the humidity. (I'm a native Mainer living in MD for the past 19 years, I know of what I speak ;) )

For me, it was blazing hot here yesterday at 87! It was not 87 in Orlando yesterday.

Boston and the whole Northeast were also quite warm yesterday.

Your $3000 budget is probably going to keep you in country if you are looking for a cooler spot in summer. Let us know what you decide on.

Alaskan cruise? You might be able to do it for 3K if you choose an inside cabin.

This was my first thought until I read the cap of $3k.
This would be do-able if OP can fly using points/miles.
Views from the ship are beautiful but it's the excursions that really highlight Alaska's beauty. We spent more than $3k just on excursions but we're a family of 4. I don't know that I'd pay the $$$ for an Alaskan cruise and then be stuck on the ship.

I'd vote for a drive to Niagara Falls if the $3k cap is important.
