Hi - We are just back and now thinking of going back to Orlando for our summer vacation. But...we won't do the major parks this time. We have water park passes and are thinking of maybe a day at GatorLand (son keeps asking).

Our idea is to just hang out and relax....swim, shop, sleep, eat out ...maybe see Cirque.

For those who go in July or August is the heat too stifiling? I figure that if we aren't waiting in lines, it can't be that bad. Can it?

Any advice is really appreciated.

We had a great non-park day in July hanging out at the pool. It's hot, but I wouldn't call it stifling. August is likely to be worse than July. Do be aware that the pools start to get less-cold in the summer with the sun warming them, but they're not as warm as bath water or anything :) You could do the airconditioned shopping during the hottest part of the day. Or, depending what age your kids are, the hottest part of the day is a great nap time, too.

I have gone in July & August & so far I like August better.

We went in July on our last trip & boy it was hot. I mean I am used to humidity that my hair curls but this was record heat for me.

I do enjoy going in the summer though.

The pool was not refreshing but it was better then sitting out in a chair.

We have actually gone over 4th of July weekend for 2 nights the last 2 years and we did not set foot in a park because of the heat. However, we went pool hopping (shhhh) and we had a fantastic time. We tried out all of the slides and water play areas at different places, went to DTD and hung out. We are DVC, and we are able to pool hop - so it worked. However, last year we rented a room cash at OKW (they had a great discount at $159) and we pool hopped even though we were paying cash (slight rule bend.) In doing this, I have become more observant about this and I wonder if other folks staying off property do it.

How old are kids? Do you HAVE to stay "on prop?" If not, consider Nickelodeon Family Suites - the pools there are AWESOME. We stayed there one night, and that place was a destination all by itself.

If not, I would recommend staying at one of the resorts connected to DTD by boat (POR, POFQ, OKW, SSR.)

We've gone end of June, beginning iof July and middle of July. It is hot, but one year wasn't as bad as the other. We make sure we have water, dress lightly, stya in the A/C as much as possible and usw Fast Pass. I wouldn't wait in lines. A sip in the poo...I'm sorry a DIP in the pool mid day really cools you off. Don't both much with makeup it'll melt right off. It is a great time to hang by the pool and shop, etc.

We went late July last year and I think a non-park vacation would be great for that time of year. It's hot and humid and it would be great to spend time by the pool and in the pool. We only went to the parks in am and spent the rest of the time at the resort.
