We shared a few private moments together:
Then Tanis came over and told us it was time for the cake and champagne reception.
I had been looking forward to this as I had debated over this cake for weeks. I ended up changing the bottom layer with only 4 weeks to go.
Tanis asked my mom if she would give a toast, and although my mom agreed she didnt really want to as she was quite emotional at this point. Rev Miller offered to do this for her, but Tanis thought it would be better for my mom to make the toast. Our waiter poured us our Champagne and we settled in behind the cake table:
My moms speech was lovely but she ended up breaking down in the middle of it. She said I was the best daughter she could ever have hoped for.
It was now time to cut the cake. Tanis instructed us to cut 2 slices, about 1 inch down about 1 inch apart, but we werent to cut all the way through. What? She was being too complicated. Steven and I looked at each other and we obviously were thinking the same thing. Still we picked up the knife and pressed it in to the cake:
I dont know if we followed the instructions correctly, but we cut a slice. The waiter took over and began cutting it properly. Tanis gave us a small slice each and told us to feed each other. I warned Steven that if he smashed it in my face, I wouldnt be happy. I reminded him I had make up on and that I couldnt fix it if he ruined it! I was NOT kidding!
He didnt smash it, but he did forcefully push the cake in my mouth. I was okay with this and immediately asked if I had any cake around my mouth. I know, relax!
Tanis took our glasses of champagne:
Then we were escorted to the middle of the floor for our first dance. Steven and I had discussed this at length. We both love music and dancing but choosing one song out of all the songs we love was very difficult. After months of debate we picked From This Moment On by Shania Twain.
These lyrics are perfect
From this moment life has begun
From this moment you are the one
Right beside you is where I belong
From this moment on
From this moment I have been blessed
I live only for your happiness
And for your love I'd give my last breath
From this moment on
I give my hand to you with all my heart
Can't wait to live my life with you, can't wait to start
You and I will never be apart
My dreams came true because of you.
We danced or rather we held each other. We spent the song gazing into each others eyes and whispering how happy we were:
Our song was over and we held on for a moment longer. It was a simply beautiful moment.
Tanis had served up the cake and she took us over to our table so we could relax. She reminded me that I was going to finally get to taste that Peanut Butter mousse I had so desperately wanted. I was like a child at Christmas and I picked up my skirt and practically ran to the table.
The cake was gorgeous. I was slightly disappointed that the fondant had become gooey in the heat, but I knew it would refrigerate well. The bottom layer was chocolate cake with peanut butter mousse and it was so soft, the cake literally melted in your mouth. There was a deep taste of chocolate and the sweet, smoothness of the peanut butter mousse, it was the best cake I had ever tasted.
Steven and I shared some magical moments that day, and I love this simple but beautiful image:
