Summer or Christmas? What to do...what to do

For almost 4 years I have been lurking on DIS and have always found all the information read, very helpful. However, now I need the "experts" to tell me what to do.

We have gone to Disney World at Christmas for the last 2 years and absolutely love it! The atmosphere is priceless. However, now we are planning our vacation for 2012 and unfortunately disagreeing over Christmas again...or summertime. My daughter, father and I want to go at Christmas, but my mother, husband and son want to go in the summer.

The crowds at Christmas aren't a factor, they really don't bother us and we really aren't "ride" people so only getting in 4-5 rides a day is sufficient. We went 4 years ago to Orlando in July and that was a huge mistake, IMO, it was painfully hot/humid, so we would be looking at early June. With all of that, can the wonderful DIS community break the tie in my household and just tell us what to do...

Thank you!

Hello and Welcome!!

I think you answered your own question....heat and humid.

Even in early June it can be quite miserable. I haven't personally went at that time, being from Michigan I can't handle that kind of heat.
Next is the crowds. It is a very crowded time of year, as people are decending on WDW in droves for their vacation. Of course depending on when you go "during Christmas" you may incounter some of that.

So I think it comes down to whether or not you are willing to risk the heat. Granted July is worse...but June isn't far behind it.

Good luck and enjoy your trip!!

We have a July trip this year, I know it is going to be HOT!:cool1: But we are going during Christmas this year as well....sooooo when I read your ost it was funny because that is how we broke the tie:rotfl2: we want to experience Disney from all perspectives so I agree with your Hubby:lmao: go during summer and get the feel of summer time.....Thats just us how we want to do Disney I want to go every holiday, and every season:lovestruc Oh yea to add we went to Halloween twice we loved it both times but cannot wait to get a different feel for Disney

You've already gone twice at Christmastime, I think it's only fair that you what your mother, husband and son want this time.

Twice in one year!! I am soooo jealous. I wish we could go at Halloween time- it looks so neat. Unfortunately, my son plays football, so it is impossible to go then.

Oh, JDB, I have a fear of flying and driving to Cali would take most of our vacation... we are planning a road trip to the west with our halfway point being Disneyland - but that is a few years down the road.

We just did Christmas, and agreed while we were there that we won't be doing that again anytime soon - not just because of the crowds, but because the weather wasn't as warm as we like to really enjoy our resort - we only went out on our deck at OKW once or twice, and only did one pool day. This year we're going for Halloween, but we would go in the summer if we had to - we always do mornings at the parks before it gets really hot, spend the afternoons in our air conditioned villa, out on our deck or down by the pool, and then back to the parks for the evenings when the sun goes down. And it's no problem finding air conditioned attractions at all of the parks, so we really don't have a problem with the heat!

Since you have done the last two years at Christmas I would also say to do the early June trip. We have done late May/early June a couple of times and yes it can be hot, but not as hot as July or August. The crowds are not overwhelming, but certainly there are plenty of people. Although you say the crowds are not an issue for you.

Summertime is a wonderful way to enjoy the Water Parks and possibly you can try a stay at the Yacht and Beach Club, Stormalong Bay is wonderful. My kids are 17 and 14 and they still enjoy it.

Agree with PP if you go to the parks in the am, take a break during the middle of the day and return in the evening the weather really shouldn't be much of an issue.

Good luck with your decision and enjoy your trip!! :)

We're going in mid-June, and I'm already anticipating hot and crowded. I can deal with it and I don't mind it but, given a choice, I'd much prefer to go around Christmas. You just can't beat WDW at Christmas. We were there once and I've never forgotten how awesome it was.

Disney in the summer is HOT, actually Florida in general is hot. My tip is try for early am OR we try to go as late in the day as we can. The resorts are perfect for the middle of the day heat and maybe storms:goodvibes
Hard decision but GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!
