Love your trip report!! Thank you for posting this! So crazy AA wouldn't put you guys on the earlier flight for a reasonable or no cost. It is in these situations where it helps to have some kind of frequent flier status or an airline credit card, it can help reduce the same day flight change fees. Thank you for all your tips!
