got some bad news, camera has a short that is causing my battery problem and since lenses without a body don't work well i need to sell a couple lenses to buy a new body...but i have tried keh in the past and craigslist, neither worked all that well imo, keh gave a pretty low estimate for the lens, craigslist i just got scam after scam. i probably will (hopefully) buy a refurbished 40d but not sure how it works with places like adorama/b&H( ie if they will give a better price to sell them something if you are buying something from them). fredmiranda it looks like you have to subscribe to sell which means more money out the window.

so long story short where have you successfully sold your stuff for what you would consider a fair price?...it'll probably be my tokina fisheye and maybe my canon70-200 lf4 when i get it back since those are probably my most sell-able lenses it that makes any difference( naturally I just spent the money i could have put toward a body to use it with to get in fixed , i have the worst timing:rotfl:)

I've sold a few camera equipment on Amazon and have had good luck with it. Sold most equipment in about five days.

maybe see if there is a big forum for your camra brand. I know Pentax has one, and there is marketplace to sell lenses and stuff.

i decided to try adorama...they give 70% of what they can sell it for and will take my body as well...so here's hoping i can get at least in the ball park of what i want ;) the online quote for b&h was lots less. ( hundreds)

Do you have a pro-camera shop in you area? Most have a consignment area on lenses and bodies and will assist you in pricing your lenses so they will sell for a fair amount. Most that I've run into take a 10% commission on the sale, but they also do all the leg work and sales so you just have to wait for the check/store credit.

the only local one is kind of odd, they have a few used pieces but most seem really under priced to me( and dusty/old). since the camera may need repair( canon and that shop told me the same thing, probably a short which i have no idea how that happened since it has never even been in drizzle) i figured i'd try someone who would fix it instead of dropping $200 for canon to do it. but if adorama drops the price a ton, i might give the store a shot.

Sounds like you have Canon gear. Try photography-on-the.net/forum, it's a Canon only forum and you might get a couple bites.

What body are you using?

I have had great succsess buying and selling photo stuff on ebay. I just got my 50mm 1.2 (thanks Gdad!) from ebay. It is also a good place to check to see what your stuff is going for.

is there anyone on ebay you use in particular to buy from? i bought one lens off there and wasn't totally happy then some accessories that were horrible junk so now i am "ebay chicken" both had good feedback but wondering how accurate that really is.

I just stay away from new posters and look at feedback. I also am very patient and do not get carried away with a bid war. To see used stuff go for more than new is really ridiculous to me.

I also have a good idea what a reasonable price is for the item.

I also look for lots of pictures.
