We are booked on the Wonder in January leaving out of Galveston. We fly into Houston the day before and thought it best to drive the hour from the airport to Galveston the day before and stay closer to the port the night before embarkation. Any suggestions on where to stay? Possibly a place that offers transportation to the port?

We stayed at the Hilton last year. They have free cruise parking, and free shuttle. I booked it again Thanskgiving. We are sailing on Black Friday. I'm also considering a hotel in the historical district just for a change. We were very happy with the Hilton, and you can't beat the price. I have it booked for 83.00 plus tax. Google Galveston stay and cruise. The website will give you a list of hotels with free parking and shuttles.

We have stayed (and are staying again in January) at the Hampton Inn on Galveston... they have a Stay, Park & Cruise package, where you stay there before or after your cruise, park during the cruise and shuttle you to and from the port. It's reasonable and easy.

last month we stayed at the Fairfield Inn in Texas City then took a cab to to port. It was a 15 min $45 cab ride. Fairfield Inn Texas City was cheaper than any of the hotels in Galveston. We also spent the day before in Houston at the space center so Texas City was a good stop.

We were originally booked on the January 13th cruise leaving from Galveston (then changed it to the January 14th cruise on the Fantasy) and were booked into Harbour House, which I had heard great things about - including a fab view of the port and the Wonder coming in.

Hampton Inn and Harbor House of course are both booked. Texas City is close by?

Well we are a group of 10. We have to get to Galveston from Houston on the 5th and thought the cheapest way would be to rent a large passenger van but not sure we will find a place to rent one for one way rental. Of course we have to get back to the airport post cruise too. I have to say, with a family this big the transport to the vacation seems to always be the most difficult part to plan.

We're staying at the San Luis (end of Dec). They have a package with parking included, if you have a rental. They do have a shuttle to the pier. If I recall correctly, the shuttle is always included. At least, that's what my TA was told. We have one rental car for 6 of us but two rooms (my parents in one, my 4 in the other) so we only booked the parking-included package for one room. She booked my parents with a AAA rate. They told her the shuttle was included either way. You can book there through DCL or on your own, too, if you prefer to book everything via DCL. Honestly cannot remember which my TA did for our package... whichever was cheapest! I believe it's about 10min from the port.

We're staying at the Hilton soon. Like a pp said, free parking/shuttle and a great price for a nice hotel... couldn't beat it!

Hilton was full. San Luis seemed to only have King Bed rooms left. Finally booked a room at a Marriot hotel called TownePlace Suites that I know nothing about. :scared:

I have no clue about that particular one, but we just stayed in a TownePlace Suites in Tucson, AZ for the first time over the weekend. Same good beds I find at other Marriotts. It wasn't "fancy" but it was perfectly fine (in fact, quite a lot more updated than the Omni we stayed at the next night, go figure), had separate sleeping areas standard (which is always a huge plus), and a decent hot breakfast included. Pretty sure they are all about the same, so I wouldn't worry too much! Enjoy the extra space for a night before sharing a cabin for a week. :)

We stayed at the San Luis Resort, sister resort of the Hilton.
Was this fairly recent? And you liked it? I am super paranoid b/c the Omni I mentioned above (which we had really been looking forward to) was just atrocious. I was laughing about it last night with my husband, b/c I'll read things on the resorts board saying stuff like Coronado Springs needs an update, and we thought it was just fine last year... but this Omni, wowsers, it hadn't been updated in like 30 years. I haven't seen appliances that old since the 80s. I'm a little terrified my kids will be freaked out by a terrible hotel again!!

Well the 10 of us squeezed into 2 hotel suites spread out into 3 cabins once we get aboard the ship, but with the square footage difference...it's like the Genie said in Aladin "itty bitty living space" :grouphug:

Wow. I'm surprised everything is so booked for your cruise. I'm wondering if something else in town is going on that day. Every hotel is available on Thanksgiving for super cheap 50-100 dollars per night. It was was the same last year on Dec 3. It leads me to believe there is a conference or something happening. January is not a popular time for Texans to go hang out at the beach.

We stayed here on December 17, before our DCL on December 18, last year. The lobby was all decked out with Christmas trees. It was nice. The rooms are a little dated, but I expect that at a beach area resort. Our Dreams Unlimited TA, Eileen Smith, booked our room through DCL and our shuttle was booked by DCL. The Rainforest Café is right nearby and there is a Kroger within walking distance.

We are booked here again for our December 9 cruise.
