Would anyone know what online vendors might sell discounted fabric ribbons?

Thank you.:)

Ballroombelle,

There are literally tons of suppliers of fabric and notions out there. And I think I've searched them all with my theater work.

Try a good search engine (I personally like Google) and go to the advanced search function. In the search protocol type in both notions and ribbon.

If you type in just notions you'll get everything from buttons to zippers (ok, I couldn't think of an "a" notion off the top of my head!) and just ribbon will get you non fabric ribbon.

The tricky part in the results will be to sort out the sites that sell to the industry. Not sure how much you're looking for but sometimes the wholesalers will work with an individual if you're buying in large quantities. I have been able to do this when I need full bolts or rolls of fabric for multiple costumes.

Thank you.:)

I did do a google search and was just so ovewhelmed by the results!

If you check back here, with your theater work, I wonder if you know of any places in NYC where I might just go and take a look? Unfortunately, I just need a spool or two-about 20 yards total?

Thanks.:)

Don't I just wish I could get to NYC for my stuff but Michigan is just too far away and school/community theater doesn't have those sorts of budgets. :p

However, in days gone by I was a retail buyer and I know when we were down in the garment district there were lots of little fabric/notion stores tucked all around the area.

Also, Martha Steward had a ribbon place in the city she used to list in her resource guide. You might check a back issue or her website!

I was going to drop by the garment district but was afraid that they might only do wholesale.:) I'll check it out anyway...should be fun!

But Martha Stewart is a WONDERFUL idea too...I should check her website! I wonder why that hadn't occured to me?

Thanks.:)

But the majority of these guys with storefronts is more retail. Of course they do work with designers, small manufacturers, etc but you need the tax ID number for that.

I've been fortunate when I've needed to order large quantities that a friend let's me use her business tax number. But like I said most of those guys just want to sell "rags"!

If I bring a designer pal with me...well I guess I'll have to ask her...I wonder, with the tax id, would we be exempt from tax or is it just the wholesale discount we'd enjoy?

I guess I will be going to the garment district after all...Martha didn't quite have what I was looking for. Thanks again.:)

If she has a tax ID you should be able to go tax exempt...presuming she is willing to say it is for her designs. Maybe you're just helping?

I didn't think Martha would have stuff online but she used to have a ribbon shop in Manhattan listed in her resource guide.

Have fun! I miss being able to get into NYC - for lots of reasons!
