First trip to So Cal with the kids this summer and trying to plan out out activities. We are going to do the beach for two days but would like to spend a couple of days doing something else. Am hoping to do Disney but it seems so expensive for a couple of days at the park so I am trying to figure out other options. What would you suggest? Is Knotts Berry Farm worth it? Are there things for a 5 year old, it seems like most rides he will be too short for? Is my 9 year old too big for Legoland?

Thanks!

I would defiinatelly say legoland. No he's not too old we took our boys when they were 8 & 10. I think 10-11 would be the oldest. They love legos so it was perfect. Look for discounts costco has discounted tickets & maybe look for a hotel that offers free breakfast. It saves money. We stayed at the hampton inn in carlsbad

Definitely would vote Legoland over Knotts for that age group. Check the height requirements for Knott's -- lots they can't do until they're over 48 inches and some rides have up to a 54-inch requirement.

Your kids should love Legoland. They can ride everything and there are lots of interactive things. Nine is the perfect age for Legoland.

Another vote for LEGOLAND.

Check on the LL tickets thread for kids free with adult ticket coupons and/or where to find the coupons in some little packages of Legos.

I agree with Legoland over Knott's, but I'll also say that Legoland is really quite expensive on its own! I'd pony up the extra and just do Disneyland which is far superior to both!

I took my niece to Legoland at age 10 and while she had fun on a few rides she was done and got bored by midday. But she's a daredevil and loved big thrill rides at that age. 9yr old may still have fun at Legoland, 5yr would be perfect.

Alternatively your kids might like the San Diego Wild Animal park or the San Diego Zoo or Sea World. All are tons of fun for families.

Disneyland has out priced us for this year. Just too expensive. So we're taking a week vacation along the Cali coast. We'll visit 6 flags Discovery Kingdom, 6 flags Magic Mountain, Santa Cruz Boardwalk, Monterrey Aquarium, Pismo Beach, Fishermans Wharf etc. Lots to see and do for a full week to places the kids have never been all at a cost much less than trying to add Disney.

We love Disney but the costs have gone up to absurdly high prices the past couple years for both DLR and WDW along with airfare skyrocketing. We'll still go, just not every year or several times a year like we used to.

In case you don't already know you can get wrist bands for santa cruz beach boardwalk from Costco & it includes some extras for the same price you pay at the boardwalk. Also on the boardwalks website they have a coupon sheet you can print out & they also have nights during the summer called 1907 nights where rides, hotdogs, pepsis & some other things are $1 each just look at their website for details.

I think Knotts is worth it. No it's not Disney, but what else is?

There is an area for kids, Camp Snoopy, that your younger child will like.

LL is okay, but your older child may get bored. Plus it can get pretty crowded in the summer.
