HI,

My 9 year old daughter saved up enough money to buy herself a Gameboy Advanced. I wouldn't buy her one but I will buy her a couple of games for Christmas. Does anybody have any suggestions, especially Disney games?

Thanks for any advice you may have.

:)

Hi~

I've been on a mission for these also, since I'm buying my niece (who is 9) a GBA for Xmas. I picked up a Lizzy McGuire game for 19.99 at Target. I've also seen online (but haven't seen it at Target or WM) that there is a Bratz game. I think the Shrek game might be ok, too.

duh! I was at TRU on Sun and they had a 9.99 bin with some games. One I saw for sure was Strawberry shortcake.

My 7 year old DD is getting her first GBA this Christmas so I've been researching a bit. So far she's getting Lizzie Maguire...there are 2 versions of Lizzie games, she's getting the 1st one...it has a PDA feature with an address book for friends which is right up her alley. She's also getting American Idol (got it at BJ's) and Barbie Groovy games (Costco) which has checkers and hangman.

The Bratz game got poor reviews and it's hard to find. There's a "That's so Raven" game that looks pretty good. There are a couple of Mary Kate and Ashley games but they don't look that entertaining to me. There are others like Strawberry Shortcake and Dora but that wouldn't be that great for a 9 year old.

There are also boy/girl games like Nemo, Incredibles, Shrek and other movies like that.

Happy shopping!!

My 10 year old daughter loves "The Sims". The GBA version is rated E for everyone, unlike the computer version that is rated T for Teen.

I'm not 9 anymore, but I am still a girl, and I love my GBA!!!

The problem with the games geared to girls is that some are way too easy to beat. Then they are no fun to play. Since she is new to video games, you will have no idea what type of game she will actually enjoy playing. She may love the Mary Kate & Ashley games, or she may not love it at all.

Instead of games for Christmas, I would get her a 2 month subscription to Blockbuster's unlimited game rentals, that way she can find out what games she really enjoys playing.

If the girl games seem too easy, then I would recommend renting Kirby in Dreamland, and Mario and Luigi's Superstar Saga. Both are rated E, the graphics are pretty and cartoony, and the offer a good challange, but are not impossible. Neither of them have objectionable story content.

Thanks so much for the replies. She has a friend that has the SIMS so I do think she will like that one. I'm thinking about picking up Mrs. Pac Man for myself ;) , I think it is one of the $10 ones. I really like the rental idea. I did not even realize that you could rent them. Cool idea.

I've got 10 year old twin girls. Here are some of their suggestions - Kim Possible, Lizzie McGuire, Lilo & Stitch, Shrek 2, Barbie Blue Ribbon, Scooby Doo.

You can also get the videos for GBA. Great for car and airplane rides.

My dd's are 8 and 10 and they got the GBA for Christmas last year. They both like the same games. Pokeman esp the new Leaf Green and Fire Red. I wouldn't have encoraged these but they rented and then bought with allowance. They like these because of the wireless adaptor that allows them to play with each other and friends. I like this as it makes the game less solitary.

They regularly play, Kirby, Lilo & Stitch, and Lilo & Stitch 2, my 10yo just got the second one for her b'day and really likes that one. Uno and Tetris are games they regularly return to and would be most likely to play on a car/plane trip.

Except for Dora which my 8yo still loves to play they don't seem to be interested in the games geared toward girls. Not interested in Lizzie or KP despite being fans of the shows.

Boy that sounds like lots of games and time - they bought most of them or got them as gifts.

My daughter is 9 too.
I'd look at getting--
Harvest Moon:It's a Wonderful Life
Mario Kart
Yoshi's Island

My 7 year old loves these GBA's:
Disney Princess game
Lizzie McGuire
Barbie Groovy Games (it has checkers, tic-tac-toe, etc)
Barbie Spy games

She also likes my Mario Game & Watch Gallery (old Nintendo Mario games) and is learning to play Majhong!

She is getting Lizzie 2, Raven, and Strawberry Shortcake (9.99 at TRU this week) for Christmas.

My dd - 8 loves the Barbie Groovy Games (actually so does my son - does anyone know if there is a similar game with a boy theme that he wouldn't be embarrassed to have?)

The games that I think will be the best, never are. I like the rental idea too. I'll be checking into it!!

I got my best friends son and daughter the Pirates of the Carribbean game. They both love it and it is rated E. I got it at Target about a month or so ago and it was $15.

I've got a question for you since you all seem to know a lot about the GameBoys. My youngest DD is disabled with cerebral palsy. I think she might like a GameBoy, but they don't have any to actually try in the store.
She would probably be able to push only one button at a time, but she needs time to respond, so fast moving games won't work. Are there any game that use one button at a time and don't make you move fast?
She likes Lizzie McGuire, would probably like PacMan, Pokeman.
TIA

I've checked on rentals and none of the Movie places do that around here.:( But I have made my list from the suggestions above and did find a used game place. I'm also hoping for some good after Turkey day sales.

I have another question. What do y'all do to label your gameboy? I can see how it would be easy to loose.

Thanks again!

For Sue M in MN - you may want to check out Wal-Mart. Locally, our stores have had them out to try. Also, when I was in Toys R Us the clerk opened the case for parents who had questions. He was also very informative. Hope you find something. I've had a time this Christmas shopping for my 8 year old DD.

Thanks. I'll try there.

Youknow I am not really sure if the gameboys would work for your dd or not. I just bought one for my dd for this christmas but she does have a gamecube and everything is fast and lots of times more than one button needs to be pushed.

My suggestion would be to get one of the "retro" games that is for sale this year. I am not sure of the name of them but you can hook them up to the tv and they have a joystick to use. I know I have seen Pacman and Ms.Pacman as well as some others. I also saw in one of the sale circulars this norning that Atari has out a retro system that seems to be pretty much like they were back in "the day". Also I was watching either QVC or HomeShoppinc Club this morning and they aslo had the games that I mentioned at the beginning. As far as I could tell they only use a joystick instead of buttons so maybe this can help.

I found the ad...It is at TARGET. Find page 13. They have the Atari Classic game system for $34.88 that olny uses a joystick. Also on the same page for $14.88 they have other games that use a joystick only. My dd 7 said to tell you that Toysrus also have the joystick ganes qand even have a spongebob joystick game.

ALSO!!!!!! If you go to Walmart.com and look up kids electronics and search for "plug n' play" a whole bunh of games will pop up INCLUDING some Disney ones and the part that has the joystick has the Mickey Mouse "pants" icon. Very cute.
