Suggestions for Disney MAW for older child (10yo boy)

My son will be doing his MAW next year around his birthday (February), and he wanted to do Jedi Training at Hollywood Studios and visit the WWOHP at Universal Studios. He's going to be 10 years old, and we're being asked what other special activities he may want to do. I'm at a bit of a loss. Most of the special activities suggested here are character breakfasts and such, and he's kind of old for that. (His younger brothers would probably love it, but they're not the one the MAW is for.)

My husband and I have also never been to WDW or Universal, so we don't really know what he'd like. He's got a severe heart condition (the reason for the MAW), so some of the fast rides may not be the best for him. He's also short due to his condition, so he's going to be around 51-52" tops by the time the trip comes around.

What types of things would a 10yo boy be able to do at WDW for special activities?

Does he like pirates? Maybe a pirate make-over at Pirates League? Or there is a night time fireworks pirate cruise- some snacks before, meet Captain Hook, boat out to see fireworks over Magic Kingdom. Is he into animals? Maybe one of the tours at Animal Kingdom.

1) If a MAW trip, ask your coordinator; they have lots of activities.
2) If doing GKTW, email them, as they are really into it.

What about one of the backstage tours? Some of them allow families. Or the sunrise or sunset safari? One of them is usually only for guests at akl but you can ask for an exception, don't knowing it will be granted through.

If you have others in your party that might like a character meal, but you want one that your son will also enjoy, you might look into dinner at 1900 Park Fare at the Grand Floridian. It's billed as Cinderella, but usually has Cinderella's stepmother and ugly stepsisters. They go right for boys in that age range and they really give them a ton of attention. Of course, if your son doesn't want to play along, then it's not a good idea, but I know that mine (11 at the time) wanted no part of character meals but ended up having a blast because they really went right for the boys. (stepmother, naturally, wants to marry off those girls. ....)

Another idea would be dinner at 50's Prime Time Cafe. Very interactive for middle age kids who don't mind some good natured ribbing.

I'm not sure what of meet and greets they allow, but you could request some of the star wars characters if they do that.

if you get the same tickets that my grandsons got, you also get a day at Sea World and my boys loved feeding the dolphins which is part of the ticket. check with GKTW about the Jedi training and getting signed up. also IOA, the super heros did a special meeting with all of them for group pics

I still wouldn't rule out character meals. My oldest did not want to do any on our first trip (she was 11 and thought she was too cool for that ) but both of my kids had the best times at all of our character meals. They were seriously the highlight of our trip-to the point that I'm booking a TON of character meals this trip. There are people of all ages at the character meals-even couples w/o kids.
