suggestions for 1st Disney movies for 2yo??

When my dd was 2, her favorite movies were Finding Nemo and Toy Story 1 and 2.

My little girl is 3.5 and she loved Dumbo, and Mary Poppins, but got scared for parts of Cinderella. I would definitely stay away from Alladin, Lion King, Hercules. She would have nightmares. I haven't seen Lady and the Tramp recently but I think that one would probably be ok.

Not Movies but... they are truly my DD 2 ½ Absolute Favorites: I think they’re part of the Sing A Long series Disneyland Fun (includes Disney Parade, Teacups, Dumbo Rides & so many characters ~ Wonderful to prepare for pictures!!!), Mickey’s Beach Party (Great if you are doing any of the water Parks w/lots of scenes from each!), Mickey’s Camp Party, we never got Goes to the Circus as older DD was afraid of clowns, I bought the set on eBay VHS (not sure if out in DVDs?) & they included one I never really heard of Pong & Perdita ~ what a Huge Bonus, lots of great songs with live action kids & dogs, another must have in this collection!!! When we take trips I always try to encourage the longer movies, However these aren’t even an option, just a must, I truly can’t say enough about them!!!

P.S. there is also a Christmas one, thank goodness ~ at least we can mix them up a little, although I have to admit I too could watch them all over & over!

Most of these are newly released to DVD. We just got all of them within the last 2-6 months. My dd who is nearly 4 LOVES them!

When dd was 2 the first movie she was able to sit thru was Dumbo. She also LOVED all the Sing Alongs especially the ones about WDW or DL they also helped her prepare for her next trip for some reason the familiar music helped her feel more at ease. She's really never had any fears or nightmares concerning any Disney movie and she 6. She's seen just about all of them becuase they've been around the house longer then she has.

My DGD turned 2 in January and her favorite movie for the last 6 months has been Finding Nemo, then a few months ago she expanded and now also likes Monster Inc.

My DD will be 2 in two weeks and Cinderella is her obsession right now & the theme of her birthday party. She can even sing parts of the songs & makes her 4 year old brother dance with her. Little Mermaid comes in second and Beauty & the Beast is a close third. She watched Sleeping Beauty, but it didn't seem to hold her attention. My mom just showed her Lion King this weekend & she seemed to like it, but was confused when Simba grew up & kept asking where Simba went. She got angry when my mom tried to explain that the grown up Simba was him. Each kid is different, so watch for cues that she is getting scared & stop or fast forward through parts that are upsetting her. My kids have have never been upset or had nightmares after watching a Disney movie, but each kid is different.

Monster's Inc and the Incredibles. She loves Cinderella, but insists on watching the other two practically every day. Wonder where she gets it from?

We have almost all of the Disney films, except for the much older ones (but I am trying to remedy this), so she has had exposure to most of them.

We took DD to WDW for the first time when she was 2 1/2 and she recognized most of the characters, so she had at least been slightly exposed to all of the characters.

Keep in mind that the selection will be different for every child. My DD 3 is afraid of very little. She actually watched Harry Potter with some of her older cousins (without any repercussions, thankfully).

However, I have a friend whose 2 year old was scared to death of Finding Nemo and is even slightly frightened of Pooh. My suggestion would be to start with one of the tamer ones and then gauge your child's reaction to determine how far to progress. Like one of the other posters suggested, DVD makes it extremely easy to skip over scarier parts.

My DD is 20 months old and in the last month has become OBSESSED with the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. She also really likes JoJo's Circus and was very excited to meet JoJo and Goliath at MGM when we were there at the end of January.

Right before our last trip, we watched Finding Nemo together. She seemed to enjoy that one since she loves fish. I'm probably going to try Lilo & Stitch pretty soon because she enjoys the movie preview for it at the beginning of the Winnie the Pooh movie.

We're pretty careful here, as I don't want ds to become too desensitized. He's seen parts of most movies on this list, but for most of them I'm not sure if he'd recognize the characters. We don't watch movies too often.

I suppose I'd better start replaying a few of these so that our character meals will mean something! His favorite movies are not Disney. They are My Neighbor Totoro and KiKi's Delivery Service by Miyazaki. He also loves Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

I completely agree with this. We bought these before our trip (our kids were just over 2 1/2) and my kids loved them. A great intro to the characters
