Sudden reservation cancellations BY WYNDHAM at WBC?

Has anyone had any sudden, last minute cancellations at WBC?

There is a thread over on TUG where one person who rents reservations had three of his reservations canceled by Wyndham -- citing some construction work going on at Tower 2. They were offered 2 two-bedroom deluxes at WBC to replace a 4 BR Presidential (which is laughable), or a 3 BR at Reunion. Needless to say, the owner is very upset and rightfully so.

But it's odd that we haven't seen anything similar posted here. Anyone having any problems like this?

ETA: That owner's cancellations happened the day before checkin.

There aren't that many 4 BR presidentials there, so if something goes wrong -- for example a water pipe breaks during construction and knocks one out (I don't know if this happened in this case, but its just an example) -- there isn't a bunch of 4 bedroom presidentials waiting in the wings as backups. I think the solution Wyndham offered here is reasonable. It would beat staying at home instead.

I know. It's pretty difficult to replace a 4 BR!

My main concern here is that Wyndham has been cracking down on large scale renters in several ways -- freezing their accounts for "audits" that take months without any resolution, not letting them obtain guest confirmations, etc. Some have had their accounts unusable for 60 days or more. But so far, nothing like this.

The question I have is whether this is an intentional new practice which might jeopardize the vacations of innocent folks renting a stay at WBC, or if it's just a coincidental one-off thing that happened to affect a mega-renter.

I'm relieved NOT to have heard other similar stories so far. Hopefully it's just a coincidence.

Another person on TUG has also verified (by calling the WBC front desk) that there are renovations in progress in Tower 2, and they are running behind, so that is probably all there is to this.

I read the thread as well the other day. There are only a small handful 4BR pres rooms. They were under renovation to my understanding. Since they were delayed, they couldn't be made available. Yes, going from a 4BR Pres to two 2BR Dlx is a major downside, but this is to the owner and not the person they rented to. I am sure the owner can make the necessary changes and the renter has to either accept the change or cancel their vacation if the owner lets them. I am sure there is a compromise that can be made with the owner and the renter. Most big renters are Platinum VIP. This means the room only cost half the points. The points for two 2BR Dlx and a 4BR pres is about the same. The owner can argue using only half the points for the two 2BR units bringing it to 224,000 (at Prime season) for both units, saving ~200,000 points. They can pass this savings to their renter. My experience is the Pres rooms are about 67% more than Deluxe price wise. That means the renter could save about $1,000 on their trip...give or take. I am sure this would be satisfying. I know it would satisfy me.
