Sudden change in plans due to hurricane

I'm flying out a night earlier than planned. I was nervous about my flight being cancelled due to the storm, so I changed it to take off Wednesday night.

Now I need to find a place to stay for one night - this Wednesday night.

My original plan (it's just me) was to hop a Mears Shuttle to one of the All Stars and see what they had. Someone mentioned to me that sometimes if you show up late with no reservations, you can get a 'rack rate' (I think she meant a lower rate) on the spot.
My flight arrives (if it's on time) at 10:30 p.m. - which means I wouldn't be hitting Disney property until 11-11:30, I guess.

Ever hear of this happening at the All Stars? Can you just walk up and request a reduced rate?

Or... I'm debating on finding a cheap hotel off-site. What would you do?

Thank you for any last minute advice!!

I don't know about that. But you could always stay at the Hyatt Hotel right in MCO. We stayed there the night before a very early flight. It's a very nice hotel. You could take the shuttle out the next day.

Why don't you just call the Allstars? I'd sure hate to show up & find their is no room.

Personally I would at least call ahead to see if there is any availability even if I didn't book ahead. But myself I would either book at the All Stars now (peace of mind), or since your getting in so late I would book an inexpensive room at one on the Airport hotels then leave in the AM for my Disney vacation with a few more $$ in my pocket!

Have Fun!

I'd call the allstars right now and see what the cheapest rate is then I'd go to Hotelkingdom and see what the best rate a decent hotel is...looks like you can get a one bedroom villa at Wyndham Palms resort for $55 for wednesday night..

Good luck...

What no one else has told you is that "rack rate" is the full rate for the time you go. It is NOT a discount rate. It is the highest published rate. So at the All Stars right now it is either $89.00 or $99.00 a night. (I'm not positive on their rack rate in Value season.)

So you will be better off to call ahead. Even a AAA discount would be lower. But you must arrange that through CRO or WDTC. It is not available at the Front Desk.

2003 value season rack rate at All Stars is $77 (standard view) and $87 (preferred view) plus 12% hotel tax.

If you have an AP or are a member of AAA I would call and see if a discount is available for your date. Otherwise the rack rate is what you can expect. I don't think I'd take my chances on just showing up and a room being available. If you're unable to take advantage of a discount and are willing to pay the rack rate to be on-site, go ahead and book a room.

Edited to add: Kimberle - I've been meaning to tell you that I just love the photo of your daughter with Mickey in your sig. It's adorable. :)

Hi,

If it were me, I would do priceline for an airport hotel. You can get a nice hotel better than Allstars for less than $30 a nite very close to the airport. They all have shuttles.

herc.

Once we got down there we realized our planned accomodations weren't going to work out- so we were driving around at 9:30 trying to find a place- we called 407-WDISNEY and talked to CRO- they gave us a GREAT rate for the AKL but then told us we might get a better rate as a walk up- we tried the walk up and they scoffed at the rate CRO had confirmed with us! So I went back to the car- cellphoned CRO again indeed got the killer rate and smiled all the way to check-in! :) So you can try and call CRO when you get to the airport- or tomorrow and explain the situation sweetly- magic happens! :)

Well, rather than be nervous all the way down, I booked All Star Music for one night.
When I called, they said they had vacancies at all three All Stars - yet in the next breath she said the package has everything very busy.
Either way, I'm set.
Thanks for all the advice.
