Hi all,
There's a recipe I'm dying to try that calls for Baker's Semi-sweet Chocolate. Are semisweet chocolate chips the same thing? My mother, my cooking guru, says they are different, but I think she might have been thinking about the unsweetened or bittersweet chocolate. I've checked various places online, and the only substitutions I can find are for unsweetened chocolate. One place did say you could substitute chopped semi-sweet chocolate for chocolate chips, so I'm really hoping these are the same thing. The Baker's chocolate is quite pricey, and since I can get the same amount of chocolate chips for 1/4 of the cost, I'd love to substitute. I'm a fairly novice baker, and my favorite recipes all call for cocoa anyway, so I've never had to worry about buying baking chocolate!
Thanks for any suggestions!

Baker's semi-sweet chocolate is interchangeable with semi-sweet chocolate chips. The different brands will have slightly different flavors, but it it the same type of chocolate. You are correct that the unsweetened Baker's chocolate is not the same as chocolate chips, basically it is dark chocolate with no sugar in it.

What recipe are you dying to try?

Lisa
