Stupid question, but does the word "soldier" apply to troops from ALL branches

of the military?? In other words, if something said "Thank you soldiers", would all the troops know it was for them or would they tend to think of one particular branch?

From a layman they will probably take it as universal. But its techinically definition is someone in an army.

DH says yes, he would understand what you're saying. He said a "PC" way is "Thanks to our Servicemen and women" (or servicemembers.) But he would understand that "soldiers" include him.

Yup, they would understand, but if you were to call each by their branch term it would be
Soldier
Sailor
Airman

Thanks Dan, I am the DM of a soldier and I didn't know all that!!

And each would appreciate the distinction of being called by their own name....especially the Marines!! But they understand if people don't as many aren't familiar with the terminology...
