Stupid drivers (vent)

I have never started a new thread here........but, I have to vent. I went for a six miler today. I don't usually run mid-morning since it's summer and usually hot. Today was beautiful, so I went for a run.

There are some really stupid drivers out there right now. They think they own the road. Two overweight (yes, fat) smoking men riding around in their cheap little used car beeping their horn at me. They are screaming 'use the sidewalk!' I don't run on the sidewalk for many reasons....mostly because they are unsafe and uneven. I, of course, not in a great mood since I was about done.....gave them the finger......I know, not so polite.

They are screaming at me, calling me not such nice names......just because I was 'on their road'. What is that? I was on the side of the road, they didn't even have to move over at all. Why do the people think that they are the only ones to count? I count too......and I am on my own two feet, not driving around in a car!

They stupid people never stop me from getting my run in......but could they give me a break once in awhile???????

I konw how you feel, I get the same when I am out on the road. I can't use the sidewalks i'm too fast.
Just try ignore them, they are only jealous becasue you are fitter than them!!

I hear ya! For whatever reason, my town in MA does not have shoulders on the road, and very few sidewalks outside of main street. There are signs all over that say "Share the road!" but it's nearly impossible. Luckily I don't catch much flack from drivers when I bike/run on the road, but it doesn't make me feel very safe when there are drivers who do not slow down when they pass me.

Beth - we get the same thing when cycling. They yell, honk , etc. It's extremely rude and completely un-called for.

One thing to remember, no matter if we're on foot or wheels, we are still slower and smaller. In a confrontation we will lose. So be careful out there!!

I will never understand these morons. I use the street as well, mainly because the asphalt is much softer/easier on the body than the cement sidewalk. Inevitably there is some dope who thinks its cute to "buzz" me, driving his/her gigantic gas guzzling SUV within inches of me for no apparent reason.

I'm sorry that you have dealt with this type of mentality. People just don't seem to understand at all. These guys had to feel powerful today and apparently you were the target. I'm sure they felt really great. Good for you for giving them the opportunity to show off themselves and too bad for them in life.

Be careful, as already said, they are bigger than you. I would not necessarily let them stop me from what I was doing. Just be safe.

I too will never understand the mentality of those who feel they must control in this manner.

I always run in the street and feel your pain. When people yell stuff at me I just yell thank you and wave. Kill them with kindness...plus I'm not very big and don't need to provoke anything.

Thanks for the replies! It happens all the time, I don't know why today I needed to vent. I am safe, but not always the smartest! These guys were bigger (and meaner) than me, and I really shouldn't have participated in the bad behavior. They could have done something to hurt me, and I need to remember to keep my cool. It's was just that there were rude drivers on my entire 6 miles, and I guess I had just had it.......no excuse though.

I will wave and say 'have a nice day' next time. It's not like they really care anyway!
