I don't know anything about Amazon or Kindles, but I am getting my daughters each a kindle fire HD for Christmas. Can I go ahead and sign up for Amazon prime now to take advantage of free shipping and then link those devices to the account on Christmas?

I don't know anything about Amazon Prime but the Kindle Fire is eligible for the free super saver shipping so you wouldn't need the Prime just for that.

Yes you can.

The Kindles will be registered to your Amazon account when they are shipped. You will only need to add the username and password to each Kindle so that they girls can purchase and download books, movies and apps. If you want your daughters to be able to stream free movies and tv shows to their Kindle Fires, then you will need Amazon Prime. They will also be able to "borrow" one book per month from the Amazon library if you have Prime. Note, that is one book per month for YOUR Amazon account, not per Kindle! Amazon Prime also entitles you to free 2-day shipping with no minimum order.

If it sounds like you would want those benefits, then by all means, join Amazon Prime. But if you were just looking to get free shipping on the Kindles, then there is no need to sign up. You'll get free shipping anyway.

Kindle is free shipping, but once you have the Kindle, Amazon Prime is awesome for streaming videos and such....saves money in the long run and I would sugest it.
