We are thinking about seeing ICE over at Gaylord Palms when we are there in Dec. I've seen Gina's review and think it is something my 80 y/o mom would enjoy. The only thing is it's supposed to be like 9 degrees in there. Brrrrrr!:scared: Gina's family are Canadien and used to the cold weather. We are true, thin blooded, southners who don't do cold.:scared: My mom is especially cold natured. She freezes when the temps drop below 60 degrees. It's probably a stupid question, but how do you not freeze in there? I was thinking double socks, tennis shoes, thin thermal underwear, lined wind pants, long sleeve tshirt, with long sleeve denim shirt over that, with fleece over that, and then the parkas they provide, along with hat, gloves, and scarves. We just don't have the clothes for really, really cold weather, since we don't have it down here. Heck, it's late October and we've yet to need even a thin jacket. We don't even own anything that would keep us warm at 9 degrees. I don't want to look like the Ralphie's younger brother in the Christmas movie who is so wrapped up in layers that he can't move without falling over, but at the same time, I don't want to freeze in there either.

lol, we may be Canadian, but 40 years later I still haven't become accustomed to our weather. :rotfl: I *hate* winter!!!! And I hate being cold!

You have no need to worry about ICE! .... you and your mom will be fine :thumbsup2 . Wear jeans or pants, and closed toed shoed are mandatory (no sandals). Running shoes with decent socks will be all you need on your feet.

Then, they give you these super long, super thick, super warm coats to wear. You can see my guys wearing them here:

With those coats on, really the only thing your mom will probably have issues with are her ears and her hands (our hands FROZE....even through light gloves). If you can get her a warm hat and a good, thick pair of mittens (maybe with those little heating packs for the fingers) then she will be super comfy and thoroughly enjoy the display.

Don't let the cold temps discourage you from going. It really is worth the frozen nose at the end!!! And as you exit, there are plenty of Kleenexes available for your drippy nose, complete with a little sign that says "Some people think its funny when their nose gets kind of runny but its snot. Please take a tissue!".

Thanks Gina! I didn't think about those little heating packs.

We are Florida people and wore long sleeve, hoodies, hats, and gloves with the parka's they provide. You will still be a little cold but not too bad where it is unbearable. Have her bring a scarf, hat, and gloves and wear a couple layers of clothes.

I looked at this tread and saw your picture and thought I know them. because I read your trip reports. Lol

Ice is great, gloves, scarf, and hat are needed.

Having done the Polar Bear Run--where you run through Ice in just a swimsuit--don't underestimate the importance of gloves. Don't know why, but they make a huge difference.

I've been to ICE in Nashville a number of times. I ALWAYS freeze no matter how warmly I dress. The last time I went I wore thermal-like underwear, long sleeve shirt, jeans, 2 pr. socks, 2 pr. gloves, knit hat, thin jacket and the coat they give you. Still froze. If you want to pay the fee to walk through and quickly look at everything, then go for it. Playing on the slides and things is never going to happen w/ me. Mainly my hands, feet, and face get cold, but I can't stand it for long at all. I have never had to pay for it, either, as my hubby was a Gaylord employee for many years. Last year we opted to give away our tickets and the year before that even the kids agreed it wasn't even worth free. That's my opinion, and I'm obviously in the minority. However, if you can't stand cold, I'd skip it.

I really want to see this show during our upcoming trip. But I don't want to pack winter parkas for everyone, and the thought of wearing the parkas they provide (and shared by untold number of strangers) makes me feel ICKY. And then the thought of getting something like lice totally killed this idea. (Lice is constantly on our minds as it keeps recurring at my kids' school these past two years -- last year our entire family picked it up other than DH and getting rid of them was a month long affair. So far this year each kids' classes and after school care have warned us about mandatory lice checks.) Really a bummer as ICE looks very cool.
