We are brand-new to DVC.
We're a family of 4, with 2 of that 4 being elementary-school aged kids.
Typically, when we travel we do fine with a 2 queen bed hotel room. However, other than OKW, there doesn't seem to be that option for any unit smaller than the 2BR.
Could someone explain the benefits of the 1BR vs.the studio?
It seems to me that my kids will be sleeping on the sofa bed, and their stuff will be in the living area, regardless of the room type. Knowing how I feel when I vacation, I think I could live with the studio--looking at it as a 2 bed efficiency-style hotel room easier than I could deal with the thought of a bedroom plus a living area that needs to be converted to a bedroom and back to a living area each day. The kids are young enough that they still want their treasures of the day (balloons, wand from CRT, etc.) near the bed, but I'm not sure I'd be willing to spend the extra points on a 1BR to make the living room a bedroom. We're also not in the rooms that much. Even if we spend time at the resort the kids are usually either in the swimming pool or sound asleep.
Obviously, the 1BR also has a larger kitchen area. At this stage of our life, VACATION means that I don't have to cook. We will probably continue to do the dining plan for the next several years, which means that the kitchen is less important.
So, given our situation is a 1BR really a better choice for our family vacation week?
Now that I think of it, is DVC even a good choice? Would we be better off continuing to stay in the Deluxe hotels instead?
Honest opinions appreciated!
