Studio: OKW vs. VWL

We are planning on visiting WDW in August for 4 days with our DS5. We have stayed at SSR and AKV, but would like to try something new. We have enough points for a studio at OKW or VWL. Any thoughts on which would work better for our family?

It looks like all of the studios at OKW have 2 queen beds, whereas VWL has a queen bed and a sofa sleeper. OKW would work better for us if that is the case, but if VWL would have some features that would interest DS, I would suffer in a sofa sleeper for 4 nights!

VWL is you DS the out door type? then VWL has lots of things.

boating, biking, trailsl, = it is close enough to walk to FW and do their outside things as well.

inside WL (not VWL) is several things too - it is a beautiful resort.

OKW has boating, biking and trails, too. But you can't walk over to FW. You can walk over to SSR and DTD.

OKW also has a Community Hall and VWL doesn't.

yes = but last time was there they allows kids in the kids club until they opened that afternoon.

Thanks for the feedback. Being able to walk to DTD sounds good.

My DS is only 5, so we will primarily be doing the theme parks and swimming at the resort. Is one pool better than the other from the standpoint of theming?

Is transportation better at one resort than the other?

Hate to be personal, but YOU suffer the sofa sleeper? I thought kids were tough!

In general, the sleeper sofas are fine for kids - they don't recognize the difference.

We like the bed/sofa combination. I can only watch TV on the bed for so long. A sofa is a nice change of pace.

My personal preference in August would be VWL. I just prefer the "all under one roof" concept when it is so hot/rainy outside.

We stayed at OKW in July one year and I hated getting so sweaty every time I stepped one toe out of our room ... and, also, we got caught in the pouring rain several times when we returned to our room from the bus. VWL has a covered walkway, so if it rains, you don't get soaked walking to/from bus. Also, it's a very quick walk to A/C from the bus.

As far as your son, VWL has the feature pool, beach and playground very close to the villas portion. At OKW, it could be quite a hike (possibly an internal bus ride) to the feature pool and sand play area depending on where your room is located.

I've personally slept in the sofa bed at VWL though and thought it was horrible for an adult. It was fine for the kids though. If you plan to spend a lot of time at DTD, VWL is not a great location though - I've never actually had good transportation to/from DTD from any resorts besides OKW and POR though.

So, yeah, don't know if I've helped you much.

They are both great. Nothing beats the size of the rooms at OKW. If you book OKW, try booking the HH location as that puts you near the main pool. You could call to see if the VWL is available and if not, then OKW as a back up. And I agree, kids need to be on that sleep sofa....That's where my adult kids sleep during every trip.

I will re-visit this issue with our little Prince Charming!!

I like the idea about staying in the HH area. Plus, OKW would solve this whole sleeper sofa issue, but I agree with a PP about having a couch to sit on while watching TV. Since this is a short trip, we could probably do without that.

We generally prefer a 1-BR for all of these reasons and that is exactly why we bought into DVC in the first place -- spaceous luxury accommodations!

Both are nice for different reasons as already stated. We just stayed in a studio at VWL for one night and it was fine, however, we love OKW. And, don't forget the boat to DTD which is one of our favorite perks at OKW! Requesting HH location would be my recommendation as well. Have fun!!

Your DS would love the main pool at OKW....my DD and nieces and nephews loved it at that age!! you can't go wrong with OKW in my book. Having said that VWL is great too....my DD loved the quiet pool (so did my DS even when he was 18!!) The lobby of VWL is so cool...not an easy choice. But, the OKW studios are much larger so you might like the extra space too. Good luck making the choice!!

Thanks to everyone for your input and ideas. We booked a studio at OKW near the HH. The two beds solves our sleeper sofa issue. Since we are borrowing points from friends, we won't need to use as many of their points. Now we can start getting excited about our first stay at OKW!!
