Does anyone LOVE student council like me?

post ur thoughts, ideas, opoins, and greatest times here.

:wave2:

I did ASB for 2 years in high school, and I loved it. Some of my most fun times were sitting back at the end of Homecomming and watching the fireworks go off and seeing all the students with these amazed looks on their faces. It was great to see all our hard work put into action. I also had alot of fun at our ASB camps that we had at a cabin in Big Bear in winter time, and at a summer camp in Julian. Just the whole experience of being with other students who want to make something out of their high school years was great. I wish I did it for more years then just those two.

Yeah I know what you mean. I'm the sophmore secretary of my class and many of my friends are on student council with me. We just finished our school's Who's Who program. It was so much fun! Our theme this year was Las Vegas and we all had speaking parts to give out the awards. It's always nice to sit back and watch everyone's hard work pay off. Also when we go to the state convention we get to meet new people from other school's. The dances are always lame but I love being invovled in it.

ours at school absolutly SUCKS!!!! i think it is stupid they meet every thursday and for what?? nothing! they are supposed to organize assemblys and things but they dont. every year the homecoming t-shirts and swirl shirts have raised up to 15 dollars per shirt and the tickets about 20. i think this is ridiculous!!!!! if you ask me our student council needs to get opinions from the students to better the things that they do because they sure suck now!
spacemountain- you are absolutly right!! it is a popularity contest

Its one of those things that depends on who it is run by. We had people in our student government from every social group. We had jocks, cheerleaders, smart kids, quiet kids, punk rockers.. everyone BELIEVE ME.

And we did SOO much stuff in our class that we had it everyday for 4th period, planned rallys, dances, spirit activites, orientation, parts of graduation.. Our homecomming was the best in San Diego. Not to brag or anything, but it was! The news stations would come, we spent a good $25,000 on homecoming itself. We would fundraise most of that money ourselves. We would get DJs to come and play music at school on fridays when we would play music all the rest of the week.

Everything ran by the students... it is just one thing that people who AREN'T in ASB don't understand.

At my school there's student council and class officers. I'm not in student council, but I'm one of the Co-Presidents of our 2004 class. For class officers, there are specific things you do each year. Frosh year you do nothing, soph year does class rings, juniors fundraise and plan prom and seniors plan the Snoball dance, senior t shirts, class gift and graduation.
Personally, I think prom/homecoming court is more of a popularity contest than student council/class officers is, but it all depends on you view of it all I guess.

Well in my MS it sucks...# 1 its basically a popularity contest..If I wanted to I couldn't prolly get elected for something...but They don't do anything! Gannon is our President! And he is so worthless! But then again...I think Student counsil is too....I mean our Parent Group plans all of our school events basically!

I'm in STUCO right now and I am having a blast. Like SDAngel said, there are so many different types of kids that do it. For example, there are jocks, punks, speech and debate, all sorts of kids. Personally, I do not think that it's just a popularity contest. Of course, the kids that get elected to office win because I guess you could say they are the most popular. But then for the kids that don't get elected we have other ways to get on like teacher recommendations and elected peoples' opinions. And something that frustrates me is people that think all we are is a glorified party planning committee. Yeah, we plan all the fun stuff, but people don't know how much work goes into homecoming, prom, and assemblies. But I really love it and I look forward to two more years of it.
