Strollers in the Parks

Hi everyone!! We have our first Family vacation to WDW planned for next October 2012. I can't wait!! I haven't been since Oct. 2008, so I'm going through withdrawl!! I think I'm even more excited just to see my DD's face when we are there!! Anyway. When we do go, my DD will be almost 3 years old and I will also have a 7 month old. (just found out I was pg!) My question is about strollers. I guess I am planning on bringing our own stroller (I'll probably have to get one of those double strollers by then! Ha!) instead of renting. Our strollers safe there for when you go on a ride or anything? Obviously anything is at risk sitting there unattended, but I would think at DISNEY things would be different! Any ideas? TIA!!

When we went our girls were 2 and 4 and we used 2 single strollers. I think this worked out better. Each of us took 1 kid and stroller. Easier to move though crowds than the double. We also parked the stroller and walked most. Espcially when in a land at MK.

after the many many times we have gone never had a problem with the strollers. we dont leave anything in them. I would suggest getting a rain cover though.I have gotten them at babie r us for $15 for a single stroller.I also read somewhere on here if the baby is asleep in the stroller if you ask super nice they wont make you take the baby out to go in and eat. that would be a HUGE plus as far as I am concerened. Congrats on the newest Mickey fanatic

Your stroller will be fine. To be able to easily spot it/them in the sea of strollers find a unique way of marking it.

Tip to identify stroller:
1). Buy peel and stick letters that come in various colors and some Disney themed stickers.
2). On a plain white sheet of paper, spell out your child(ren)'s names or your family's last name and strategically place the stickers in a decorative manner.
3). Have the sheet laminated and use a whole puncher to punch a few wholes at the top of the laminated sheet of paper.
4). Use electrical wiring/cable wiring plastic ties (usually found in hardware section at walmart) to attach laminated name card to your stroller.

Definitely get a rain cover and you'll be good to go.

First, and most important, congrats on your pregnancy!!!!! Yippee!! We love babies at our house!

We have used double strollers for a few of our trips, but I find it much easier to put the baby in the sling and push just one single stroller. We've been to Disney many times with a stroller and have never had any issues. I leave the diaper bag in there, but take the camera on attractions with us in its case.

If you read enough threads, you'll see reports where people have strollers stolen, moved, things taken, etc. But I'd dare say the vast majority of strollers/contents are just fine. Just my two cents.

Good tip! I've seen lots of families do this and it seems to work quite well. Unfortunatly, not an option for us as my husband has very limited use of one hand, making steering a stroller a bit difficult, especially in crowds.

Rain covers are a SUPER idea! So many times people huddle strollers together underneath a shelter of some sort, and since its not a "legal" stroller parking area, CMs move them. If you don't have a cover, well, they get wet. Really wet! Well worth the investment!!

My DH is also very tall....6'7". I know they make some fancier strollers with extendable handles, but I'm a Graco 49.99 kind of gal. But, if your budget allows, it may be wise to look for longer-handled strollers.

We LOVE slings! Even my DH has a "manly" print sling that he uses at WDW, and occasionally around town here. Message me if you'd like more info on them. I don't sell them or make them, but I can answer any questions/provide insight. I was really overwhelmed when I looked into them at first, so much so that my first child never was in the sling. But the others LIVE in them, especially when they're under a year!

We used our double stroller earlier this month - my girls are 16 mo and 2.5.

We had zero issues with the double. It wasn't hard to push, manuever, etc. We took it in stores, on the monorail, and buses easily. For us, I much prefer the double over 2 singles. It's nice to take turns pushing, so that way we don't both have to push a stroller at all times. That way one person can run to get FP while the other meanders with the stroller. Or one can wait in line for a snack while the other takes the stroller to find some shade. Plus, folding up and holding 2 strollers on the bus wouldn't be fun.

In our case, I couldn't see a situation where we would split up. Both my kids were under 40 inches, so we wouldn't split up for rides. They're on a similar nap schedule, so we wouldn't split up for that.

We left the diaper bag hanging on the stroller at all times. It had basics in it, but nothing valuable. If the diapers and snacks for the day were stolen, it wouldn't be the end of the world. I also carried a small one-shoulder backpack with 2 diapers, camera, etc. We tied a pretty ribbon on the handles to make the stroller easier to spot.

My only recommendation on a sling or wrap is to be sure you get one that breathes well, and won't make you or baby too hot. I wore both of my children for a loooong time...I *love* wraps and slings. With my youngest I used a Moby almost exclusively because he loved it so much he DID live in it lol. However, it's a bit like a straight jacket and got quite hot at times (I live in SE La). So, keeping in mind that you're going to be doing quite a bit of walking, it may be in your best interests to research a good, light, breatheable sling/wrap.
